To think it doesn't take 7+ days to provide a receipt? Does this seem dodgy?

I've booked a set of driving lessons to take place in January, I found the company on Google after searching for lessons in my area.

I was asked to pay upfront via bank transfer after a chat on the phone discussing dates which I did. They said confirmation of receipt can be sent upon request so after paying I asked could they kindly send a receipt and confirmation that my booking had been secured, to which they replied that they would send my email to "accounts" and have them check the payment had been received.

A week later nothing so I email again asking if everything is OK with the booking as I'm yet to get a receipt, they replied "Am checking with our Accounts Department and let you know as soon as possible"

AIBU to think this is starting to seem a bit dodgy?

I would think most local driving instructors are one-man-bands. They don't have an accounts department. If a self-employed man has an accounts department, it's usually his wife.

Bit weird to take full payment. Usually a deposit to secure place then pay per lessson.

When you sent the payment did your bank verify that the name of the account matched the one for the account? If they did and it turns out to be fraud they will be liable - approach them first and if no joy go to the fca.

*matched the one he gave you

Yes it did fortunately. It's a bank account under the name of the driving school / company.

Not if it's block booking. My mate and his wife are instructors and their company will take payment in full, or the cost of two lessons and payment as each lesson is taken / cancelled without notice.

@Merlott thats not the case. Many give a discount for block booking. Pretty standard.
