As the username suggests, I am in Northern Ireland (not near Belfast). My employer are based in London. I work remotely with travel to London a few times a year. I love my job. I love my colleagues. My employer is a charity.
They are having an all staff christmas party followed by annual staff award ceremony next day. They want me to attend and I want to attend. They said they'd pay my travel etc. All good.
Except their travel reimbursement policy is really stingy - from memory its something like £50 per night for a room, £20 a day for food, and i can't remember what the travel reimbursement was but its much less than my fare would cost! I only found out their expenses policy after I joined. I thought their reimbursement policy would be pretty standard.
I can't get any decent hotel for that kind of rate, certainly not anywhere near HQ which is in central London. It will be 2 days/nights accomodation, travel, food etc. I can't get a train obviously and have to pay to travel to the airport if flying as I don't live near Belfast so that adds cost.
AIBU? Is it possible to stay somewhere in London super cheap without having to share with strangers or stay in the middle of nowhere? I should add that I also have disabilities so I need to travel in an accessible way and find an accessible hotel (so I can't just book into ANY hotel). I need to consider my safety when travelling and staying in London. My employer knows I'm disabled although its not mobility so I'm not sure if they get the issue I have. How do I approach this with my employer as I worry they won't want to pay the higher cost!
