To ask if Monday or Friday is a better day for nursery?

3 DCs. Two in nursery, one baby with me while I'm on mat leave.

Older ones can go:
Mon, Tues, Thurs or Tues, Thurs, Friday.

Is Tues, Thurs, Fri better because you're not paying for all the bank holiday Mondays? Or is it nicer for long weekends to have Fridays off?

YABU - Mon, Tues, Thurs is better
YANBU - Tues, Thurs, Fri is better

Does the nursery definitely charge for bank hols? Ours doesn't.

HeyBuggy · 12/12/2022 17:09

This will be full time and NOT term time only if that makes a difference

If the nursery charges for bank holidays avoid the Monday option I'd say.

HeyBuggy · 12/12/2022 17:10

Yep it does charge for bank holidays

What days will you need when you return to work?

Namechanger965 · 12/12/2022 17:11

Definitely avoid the Monday’s then. Either way they’ll be having a day either side of the weekend off so it’s still a long weekend.

Good question- Tues, Wed Thurs but we can change that in Sept before I return to work as most children in their room will go to school in Sept 23 but mine won't until Sept 24.

I don’t think it really matters too much. Are Mondays or Fridays better for toddler groups or their friends meet ups?

Cornelious · 12/12/2022 17:17

Avoid Monday otherwise you'll pay for it when dc are not there.

queenofthewild · 12/12/2022 17:18

Are you likely to want to increase your days in future? Fridays are generally quieter in most nurseries, so if you opt to take the Monday now, you can probably also request the Friday in the future.

If you're only going to want 3 days, make one of them the Friday. You won't end up with loads of bank holidays you're paying for.

pjani · 12/12/2022 17:18

I preferred Fridays for my little one who found the setting a bit overwhelming as they always seemed to be the quietest day of the week.

Clevs · 12/12/2022 17:19

I would avoid Monday if they charge for bank holidays.

Even if they're in in a Friday you're not losing a long weekend because the extra day will just be Monday instead.

I don't think so - currently I work FT in four days so when I'm back, I have one day at home with them and DH is part time so he also has one day.

That's a good point about Fridays being quiet.

Good question- I think there's a bit more choice on Mondays.

Thinking about Fridays being quieter has made me laugh actually. It's like how it's always a bit of a doss day in work (which is why I chose Monday as my day off), so now I'm imagining a big group of toddlers counting down to the weekend and putting minimum effort into their colouring.

We have Fridays off from nursery, works well for us and easier to go away for the weekend as Fridays are a quieter day at work, so can normally finish early.

mrs55 · 12/12/2022 17:57

Take the Friday there are so many bank holidays now especially if you have to pay! My seconds now in nursery tuesday wed and Friday and it’s working well when the Thursday becomes available I’ll probably take that day aswell. You’ll pay quite a bit for the missed Mondays plus the teacher training inset days always seem to land on a Monday aswell.
