Last min Xmas day plans when we already have arrangements

We have invited family (mixture of mine and DH) over for Xmas dinner, all are very local so expecting them to come around 12ish and will prob leave 4ish.
We have had this planned a little while. SIL has messaged today to say her and DH cousin and Auntie are going to come to their house after lunch for only an hour on Xmas day and we should try to pop in.
I have asked DH to message back and say as we already have people over for dinner we could possible come after 4 for half an hour but otherwise we won't be able to.
Anyway he is so useless when it comes to planning and wouldn't message back so I have done it. He hasn't said anything to me and isn't annoyed but think I have annoyed SIL.
Was I unreasonable to message back myself to DH family and should I have tried harder to make the effort to go? I just feel its so late in the day.

Why do you think she is annoyed? Has she said anything or just not replied? YANBU, she was being very presumptuous and should have asked when is convenient to.come round as its obvious you will have plans on xmas day.

Is sil usually assuming her plans are More Important?

This doesn't make sense. How hard is it to write back and say sorry we have plans, and offer an alternative?!

boomboombang · 11/12/2022 17:45

I’d of just left it to dh

“Sorry. Won’t be able to make it, have fun xx”

i mean they’ve asked, it’s not possible - end of issue. SIL is “annoyed” (allegedly). And?
