AIBU To Want To Dispose Of Google Assistant

Maybe it's me, maybe this is my fault.

I recently got a Smartphone. Prior to this I always used a laptop (and still do, for the most part) but I decided my dinosaur of an old phone, which I just used for making calls and sending texts, was a leetle bit out of date. I thought that maybe a Smartphone would be useful.

And it is. Very useful. But I have a problem, and maybe someone brainy on here can tell me what to do. Whenever I put my fingerprint on the sensor, Google Assistant opens.

I do not want Google Assistant to open. I do not even want Google Assistant on my phone. It does not seem to appear in the list of Apps, so I cannot delete it.

It just turned up. And I do not want it. I am sick of Google Assistant. I do not want to ask it anything. I want it to go away. It will not go away. This is infuriating.

Would I be unreasonable to murder Google Assistant?

Or can someone just tell me how to delete it permanently.

It's in your settings. What phone is it and we'll help. Or you can Google if that's easier

TheShellBeach · 11/12/2022 16:35

It's an old Samsung J5 which is as much of a dinosaur as my old phone in its way

I have looked in Settings, to no avail.

Swipe down click the cog for settings, click Google services and preferences, click settings for Google apps, click search, assistant and voice, click Google assistant, click manage general settings for assistant, toggle the Google assistant to the off post. I'll grant you the menus are very long to get there!

Oh wow!

May I buy you an expensive present? A really expensive present?

I am so, so happy to have got rid of it at last.

Many, many thanks.

@Runningintolife thank you!! It's really irritating and pops up all the time, good riddance to that! 🙌

Yes, it's a bit too much peace-and-goodwill-to-all-people on this thread.

😂

Actually, I've been telling it to turn itself off, too, but it pays no attention whatsoever.

DH kept on asking me who I was talking to.

Ha!

Now I keep getting a pop-up, asking me if I want to turn Google Assistant back on.

No, I fucking don't. HTH, phone.
