Posting here for traffic,
Since yesterday evening flies have been appearing my living room, I've killed about 10 so far. There's nothing rotting, no smells, no bad food etc. I can't figure out where they are coming from.
I have a phobia of flies/maggots and I'm sitting here constantly on edge. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

I did have the heating on yesterday for a while before they started appearing so maybe it's something to do with that. It's just the thought of something dead somewhere terrifying me. I've been off my food etc all day thinking about it and just feel dirty :(

I had that when a rodent died in the loft. Very unpleasant

Could I ask how some of you got rid of the flies. We had a bird fall down a false/unused chimney in our bedroom and couple weeks later we have lots of flies. We recently had a baby too so I’m so stressed had to move out of that room and everything just feels unclean now in there!! How did you get rid of the flies??

I've had it twice this year too. Large, sluggish flies, I think its dead mice below the floorboards, as there's an unpleasant smell too, not sure what is to be done about it though.

Do you have a fireplace? We had a bird fall down and went down the back of the electric fire which had been fitted in there. Chimney hadn't been capped.
First we knew was when lots of flies appeared.

Similar here. No smell at all just a fly invasion. Years later we found the pigeon skeleton just the other side of the closed vent.

And we got the chimney capped to stop further incidents.

We had a cat that kept pulling down one of the kitchen kickboards and one day a rabbit came (possibly was brought by said cat) and went behind. We thought it had got out but after a little while we started to get flies. We had to take off a few more kickboards to find it (well DH did, I couldn’t face it). I think that is the only thing you can do, you need to get it out.

In the short term, buy some of those horrible sticky fly-killing strips and hang them everywhere, but make sure they won't catch you and stick to your hair as you walk past.
This will catch hundreds of the little buggers and you can spend time searching the source.
If you live rurally, it could be cows in a nearby field or similar, in which case you will have to learn to put up with them

Yeah I’m such a clean freak and so upset at what’s happening. Not sure I can face opening the fireplace in fear of the mess we’ll see but from what you are all saying it’s probably only way to get rid of the issue! That and a cap on top of the chimney.

Definitely something dead. Took about a week for the flies to clear for us. No smell at all. About a year later a builder found the carcass under the kitchen.

Omg I totally misread this at first and thought you'd had a builder's carcass under your floor 🤣
