To be shocked DH doesn’t wash his legs and feet in the shower?

Kissmybaubles · 08/12/2022 09:16

had to use the toilet while DH was in the shower this morning and noticed that he doesn’t actually wash his legs or feet.

I asked him about it and he said he never does, he just lets the water and soap run over them and that washes them … 🤢

A) how did I not know this about him?
and B) is this normal? Do people do this.

I wash every part of my body everyday in the shower.

AIBU?

well, most of it yes. There are areas that I clean specifically, but your feet get some kind of wash just from moving around on the bottom of the shower I would say. Certainly that's my experience in terms of going in with (visibly) dirty feet e.g. grass stains. They come out nice and clean without specific scrubing.

Also, like I said, a loofah being used on yout feet and then all over you body is worst imo. Unless you have a specific foot one?

No loofahs at all here!

Saltywalruss · 09/12/2022 13:06

Now I understand why some people are reluctant to have guests walk around barefoot on their carpets!

Oblomov22 · 09/12/2022 13:20

This has been done to death.

Because feet are as dirty as the soles of shoes? Really?

No, not as dirty as shoes . But sweaty and, yes, possibly a bit dirty.

Easymeasy · 09/12/2022 14:02

I think this is a cultural thing- there has been a lot of posts about this. Apparently many white people do not wash their legs in the shower.

Easymeasy · 09/12/2022 14:04

For those who get dry skin after washing themselves.. moisturise after a bath or shower. Yes everytime.

Too dirty to walk on a floor? After being in a shower with hot water and soap? Hmm.

There is a search function. Pretty simple how to use it.

mam0918 · 09/12/2022 14:10

Also since this thread seems to equate washing to 'smashing soap into your skin and scrubbing with a loofah' not just 'cleaning with water' Im going to blow everyones minds and say I must not wash my bits either (because the idea of rubbing chemicals into and sandpapering my clit sounds like torture).

Honestly the use of clean water is enough to wash yourself and your really shouldnt be soaping up and loofaring some areas of the body at all.

somuchtolearnabout · 09/12/2022 14:13

People wash their feet in the shower????? Is that a thing???

Definitely
There's a thread on Reddit under black people twitter where people are horrified that legs are t washed, washcloth not used, no lotion etc etc
Black skin shows as ashy if it's not moisturised when white skin doesn't so I guess it's a more visual reminder to moisturise well

I also watch some shower routine stuff on YouTube which shows a lot of differences
(Link)

For me, I want soft nice clean skin that doesn't have dry patches or bumpy upper arms or cracked feet so I'm picky about showering and it's also self care for me

Yes Confused
Feet sweat, they get stuff in between toes, they get cracked skin, they are in shoes all day
It's no wonder some people have smelly cracked dry feet if they're expecting them to be clean and soft by running a bit of soapy water over them

Watching that video, there are a lot of products used. It's just consumerism, and it kills the environment. From the energy used to create and ship the products, to the packaging that then gets chucked. We are meant to be reducing.

'bumpy upper arms'

You mean Keratosis Pilaris?

First of all thats not feet so not really relevent, second its completely natural, harmless and common and linked to genetics (same as things like cellulite) and thirdly there is no proven 'cure' so bathing habits won't fix it.

While many places do suggest moisturing a lot of advice is actually to avoid chemicals, soaps, scrubs and even washing with hot water and keeping bathing to a minimum because those things dry it out more.

I mean techincally several studies have show rubbing Urine into Keratosus Pilaris (well specifically the Urea compound) and leaving it there to dissolve the build up will lessen the redness and effect but Im not rushing to add that to my shower routine lol.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 09/12/2022 16:57

Why would you barge in on your partner in the shower, when they are naked and vulnerable, and then start criticising them?

Pickingmyselfup · 09/12/2022 16:58

I do wash my legs and the top of my feet but I don't get in between my toes or do the soles. Don't really fancy doing a balancing act in the shower and I'm stood in soapy water which seems to do the trick.

My feet don't smell but I do know people who have feet who smell within an hour or so of washing them. My feet would maybe smell in hot tight shoes in summer after a few days, my dad's can smell after washing with no shoes on.

Figgypuddingpiggyfudding · 09/12/2022 17:01

I don't care how my husband washes and vice versa!

When we only had 1 bathroom, if I had to go while he was in the bath he'd put his head under the water! I could definitely wait if it were just a shower. But only happened about twice in 5 years. For me, it's worse than not scrubbing legs and feet!

Blimey, let the man have some privacy!

I'd be really pissed if my DH decided he suddenly needed the toilet when I was in the shower - and more so if he thought it acceptable to observe then criticise how I wash Confused

I find it strange how private people are about having a wee in front of people! Our bathroom door is never closed!

True (although it's her job so I'll guess that's why!)
If I had to pick 4 things it would be soap, a flannel, something scrubby like a loofah or brush and lotion

I like products, but I don't fly, have children, drink, go on holiday, drive more than once a week, limit my meat consumption, and a million other things so products are my one vice

Tbh. I don't think I am friends with anyone who'd care if I saw them wee!
