Aibu to be pissed off that some Etsy sellers don't despatch items for 10 days!

I'm now 5 weeks into waiting for two items from different suppliers & both have admitted they didn't despatch the parcels for 10 days. They also said this was within Etsy's policies. Is it? It's really put me off using Etsy again in the future. I've already been to the sorting house this morning & yet again there's nothing there. Neither seller used Evri.

A lot of Etsy sellers aren’t big businesses. Giving them 10 days to post, allows them to potentially build up a bundle so they can send all at once instead of going back and forth.

Annoying yes but it’s just part of the website

AntsMarching · 07/12/2022 09:59

I found it annoying, but I've learned to message the seller and tell them when I need it. They are usually happy to meet the timeline if they know it upfront. I've only had one seller get stroppy when I've done that.

ferretface · 07/12/2022 10:00

The shipping window is indicated on the item page, it really depends on whether the item is made to order or not and even so some sellers might indicate it can take multiple days/weeks to dispatch. It isn't Amazon.

Look at the item page and see what the dispatch window is to figure out if they have broken their own shipping guidelines or not.

ThatWriterInTheCorner · 07/12/2022 10:03

A lot of Etsy sellers are small craft businesses, so they might well be using those ten days to actually make the item you ordered.

Are they breaching the leadtimes they state on their item listing? If so then YANBU, that's poor business practice. But if they've told you upfront how long your order will take, then YABMassivelyU to shop a site that's renowned for handmade and custom items and then complain that handmade, custom items take longer.

luxxlisbon · 07/12/2022 10:07

They are a small business and things are usually personalised, of course it’s not going to be dispatched the same day like asos or something.
The order preview usually makes the longer delivery clear.

If both sellers dispatched within 10 days and you’ve been waiting 5 weeks then your problem is Royal Mail, no idea why you seem to be solely blaming the Etsy businesses.

Lockheart · 07/12/2022 10:07

Why don't you try reading their delivery policies before getting annoyed? Lots of sellers don't have immediate access to a post office or will need to make the item concerned!

If you want instant next day delivery you're looking in the wrong place.

I really like Etsy and generally get things quite fast.

ShadowsShadowsShadows · 07/12/2022 10:22

I have an Etsy store. When it says 5-10 business days that's because I am actually making you the item during those days. Lots of my items have options for different finishes or can be customised so for a relatively small business it isn't viable to make every possible variation of every item in advance and have them all sitting there in case I get an order, the outlay for materials would far outweigh what I could earn back through sales.

This is very common practice on Etsy and one of the unique selling points for most customers is that the item is hand made specially for you! It will clearly state the timeframe on the item description and in the info when you place an order. Some Etsy sellers make in advance and those will usually dispatch faster.

WeepingSomnambulist · 07/12/2022 10:24

Etsy is mostly made to order.

You're not ordering mass produced shit from Amazon. You're ordering handmade to order items (unless you're buying from one if the sellers who is selling mass produced Chinese crap and if so, then why buy from etsy?).

Do you actually expect to get handcrafted individual items sent out next day or something?

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 07/12/2022 10:25

It's small craft Sellers, they don't work to Amazon times.

I have an etsy store and despatch same or next day but my product is ready.

I do sometimes think it can be very slow, especially with Royal mail at the moment but that's unfortunately how it goes on etsy. It does always have an estimate based on the despatch time the seller advises so you know if it's going to be slow.

GoldenGorilla · 07/12/2022 10:28

Etsy is mostly for small business crafters - for a lot of them once you order and pay for something, they will buy the necessary supplies, make it and post it. That’s why Etsy allows longer dispatch times.

when you do a search there’s an option to filter your results by how soon they’ll be ready to post.

If things are being made to order then that’s reasonable. I wouldn’t say ‘most’ things on Etsy are though. Ten days seems a really long time. I’d expect (and usually get) 2-3 days max.

Sartre · 07/12/2022 10:33

If it’s made to order then I would expect to wait 2-3 weeks at times, particularly busy periods like Christmas. If it’s a ready to go item then waiting 10 days to dispatch is just lazy.

Their delivery policy was 1-3 days at the time of ordering. They've since amended this to 10 days. It isn't a personalised or hand-made item, it was just a piece of vintage sheeting.

I have a Etsy store and my times are 4-6 weeks. Can go up to 8 weeks for dispatch.
Depends how busy it is and how many orders are flying in.

Isittrueornot · 07/12/2022 13:54

Ohh ok, sounds like they was waiting on the material from their supplier then, but if it says 3 days that what it should be.
