Don't do an AMA if you don't want to answer

It really annoys me when people to an AMA and then say or words to the effect of "I'm not answering that question"
Why make a thread saying you'll answer anything and then get weird about answering?

Aibu to think it's weird to do it?

Ps I know I'm getting annoyed over nothing and I could choose not to read the threads but still!

I agree, the point of AMA should be to answer anything, bar perhaps questions obviously designed for no purpose other than to offend. Sometimes there's a deluge of questions and you can forgive the OP for not getting round to answering them all.

SirenSays · 05/12/2022 19:16

I've never seen that. What I usually see is goady posters saying things like Why would we want to ask YOU anything

XenoBitch · 05/12/2022 19:16

Agreed. A lot of people start an AMA and never returned. I have been told by another poster that my question was not appropriate... was not even the OP.

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 05/12/2022 23:47

I suppose you can ask anything but that doesn't mean they answer any and all questions. Most people have some boundaries after all.

Whether the particular boundary was reasonable or not is kind of impossible to say without context. But I can think of a bunch of reasonable ones so I wouldn't agree it was always unreasonable to not answer a question in an ama - but I think many people give a half answer or a general evasion or deflection.

AlizeeEasy · 05/12/2022 23:48

Well it’s an ask me anything, not an answer me anything. You are free to ask but that doesn’t mean they have to answer.

Me too and it drives me round the twist
It's an anonymous forum and people pick and choose what to answer because something is personal or inappropriate when likely it's what we all wanted to know! Not something we can bloody Google!!

opened the thread to say the exact same thing.

They should just scrap the topic as it's endlessly frustrating. OP gives fascinating topic title then gives short, almost snappy answers to all the obvious questions.

If someone wants to share an experience then just share it in the relevant topic. Making people ask, then throwing out scraps is just irritating.

I agree with this. They're entitled to not answer certain questions if they're not comfortable doing so.

I WAS HELD CAPTIVE BY A DRAGON AMA

Blimey that's amazing, when did this happen?

What the fuck, a real dragon?

Yes.
