AIBU to think my dad is a miserable sod?

Sorry if this is the wrong thread, I’m new here, just need to vent.

I take my mum every year to see the Christmas film, It’s A Wonderful Life & they have a long interval of a choir, raffle, singalong Christmas songs. We both love it.

This year I invited my dad, my mum told him there would be a good hour or so before the film started as there would be choirs etc, he said he definitely wanting to go. All he done was moan about how long the choir was singing for, how long it was taking before the film started, how long the manager took to do a nice speech thanking us all for turning up (charity run cinemas)

He got that bad my mum elbowed him & he just ruined the whole night. I paid for us all & I just think he’s a proper miserable get & I could tell my mum felt bad on my behalf probably because I paid.

I told him he’s not invited again as he’s just a right old Scrooge , was I being unreasonable to say that to him?

There is bigger fish to fry I’m sure but he’s really peed me off.

Nope, sounds like he should've been starting in A Christmas Carol.

That's a shame he ruined it for you. Can you do something else now just for you and your mum?

YANBU, definitely don’t let him come next time.

Well, he’s been invited, didn’t enjoy it so he won’t want to come next year and can’t complain he’s missing out. Win-win, back to a lovely tradition with your mum.

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy That made me laugh. You’re definitely right, He is the definition of Scrooge.

Ive booked for me & my mum to go & see White Christmas in theatre soon & he is DEFINITELY not coming.

Quite right too. Hope you enjoy :)

Yes, I think YABU and was acting the definition of what you were accusing your father of.

He grumbled for a bit and for that he got roughly elbowed in the ribs and then told that he was a scrooge and would no longer be invited to any future events. I would have been mortified if I'd seen someone publicly talk to their own father in that manner.

If there's bigger fish to fry I'm not sure then why you made this into such a bigger deal than it ever needed to be??

Act like a brat, get the consequences.
