To think that a Samba Band and a Vigil do not really belong together?

There was an event in our local town tonight. It was a version of Reclaim The Night called Reclaim the Streets; an inclusive one where men are welcomed. As part of the event they had a Vigil. There was no reference as to what or who the Vigil was for. (I assume female victims of male violence) The 'The Vigil' was then ended with a Samba Band.

AIBU to think that this is bizzare and that Feminism and left wing grass-roots activism has become a bit odd?

Reclaim the Streets were an anti road protest movement. Was it Reclaim These Streets?

BilliousBob · 02/12/2022 21:11

Yes...@NewBootsAndRanty its was 'these!'

Samba bands are kinda standard fare for lefty gatherings/protests.

Ubiquitous, like the SWP who appear at everything with their placards.

@MintChocCornetto Yes but Samba is carnival and a Vigil is prayerful rememberance of the dead. Other than sharing the common ground of being lefty pastimes, I cant see how they could possibly fit together compfortably at an event.
