How to build relationships with students I'm tutoring

I am working as a private tutor for young girls with eating disorders, who are staying as inpatients.
It's a very interesting role, with some it's fine but I'm struggling to build relationships with 1 or 2. Obviously they are there under mental health reasons and disordered thinking patterns. I have been very kind, patient, asking about them etc. But 2 of the girls are still very icy and wary of me, and don't want much to do with me. I'm not blaming them, they're also at an age which is difficult at the best of times without having to go through what they are.
It's a struggle to get them to do any work and I'm concerned about them failing. I'm no longer sure what approach to take. The hospital is very laid back and pretty much lets them do whatever they want in terms of schoolwork. Maybe I should just stop bothering and trying, or just give it a bit more time? Just wondered if anyone else has experience of such work or maybe through their family.

They're in GCSE years which is why I'm concerned.
