To eat a 4 pack of M and S blackcurrant sundaes

My dsis is currently in intensive care after emergency surgery to stop bleeding after a liver transplant. She's very, very poorly.

I am looking after my niece (dsis is single parent).

I am just about to eat the fourth in a box of m and s blackcurrant sundaes, which i remember my gran buying for me when I was little. I've put on a good half a stone in the last two weeks comfort eating but hoping if things get better i can go back on the low carb lifestyle i used ti have!

I just read your other thread. I didn’t say anything on there because I didn’t have any advice about the situation but you are definitely not BU for comfort eating. You’re in the saddest situation and deserve something that gives you a little comfort. Enjoy your sundaes and don’t feel guilty at all! You, you sister and your niece are in my thoughts 💐

YABU, blackcurrant is yucky! Sorry about your sister :-( You can have my virtual hand to hold

Don’t feel guilty at all op x

YANBU to comfort eat at all but I voted YABU because I know how my body would react to so much sweetness at once, make sure you balance with some savoury stuff too!

Seriously though, so what you need to do at the moment. Tomorrow can see to itself. Sending you extra strength to get through this horrible time 💐

airforsharon · 27/11/2022 19:54

I initially misread that as 4 PACKS of blackcurrant sundaes and i did think coo, that's going to make her feel icky 😂
Just 4 though - nah. It's not called comfort eating for nothing.
All fingers crossed for your sister.

OrigamiOwls · 27/11/2022 19:59

In the circumstances it is entirely reasonable!

Blackcurrant is wonderful, one of my favourites for jam, the Aldi posher version is excellent. I've never had blackcurrant sundaes. may look for the but I can be very unreasonable with ALdi individual raspberry trifles though!

As long as you go private on healthcare if you get diabetes, you do you! you go girl finger clicks

Burnamer · 27/11/2022 20:09

Oh fuck off @Burgoo

picklemewalnuts · 27/11/2022 20:12

Go for it!

Can I suggest buying in a healthy range of comfort foods so you can comfort eat with reduced consequences?

justcallmebozo · 27/11/2022 20:13

I bought a packet of them from Tesco a while ago, had one, thought it was ok, not as good as i was expecting, but still ate the other three straight away. And i wasn't having a stressful time, just being piggish. So no, definitely won't condemn you for that.

catsonahottinroof · 27/11/2022 20:15

In this situation YANBU at all, and they are delicious! I remember eating them in my childhood and can't believe they're still doing them (was coming on to say four might be a bit excessive before i read your op).

AnneLovesGilbert · 27/11/2022 20:16

So sorry about your sister 💐

Since you’ve asked, I think nurturing your body with healthy nourishing food and focusing on looking after yourself while you go through this extreme worry would be sensible. Will you really feel better for eating loads of something sweet and fatty or will you feel sick and wish you’d had something that’ll keep you full and feeling like you’re caring for yourself and staying as strong and fit as you can?

Idtotallybangdreamoftheendlessnotgonnalie · 27/11/2022 20:31

Blackcurrant is fruit, it's one of your 5 a day, right?

Hope you're ok x

LadyKenya · 27/11/2022 20:36

Not what I would advise personally. It is not the way to deal with the stresses of life. It would be better for you to eat well, foods that will actually nourish your body, especially during this testing time that you are going through.
