To think places for children should open earlier?

Just seen this on my Instagram and could not agree more! Everywhere for children opens way to late, should be open earlier.

Most only open later on a Sunday don't though? Most places around are open from 8/9 every other day

DashboardConfessional · 27/11/2022 17:31

This definitely applies to some places here. Local ice-cream parlour with animals/rides and seasonal stuff opens 11-3. Petting zoo with playground and café opens at 10. Your choices in the morning are 9am softplay or the park.

Mol1628 · 27/11/2022 17:34

Totally agree. Even the parks are sometimes locked up till 9am.

Mammyloveswine · 27/11/2022 17:36

I mean the staff might not have kids so why should they have to be at work at a ridiculously early hour?

We've all been there...there are parks open if you must get out before 9am.

Ridiculous and entitled post.

Agree with this.

WhyIsEveryUsernameAlwaysTaken · 27/11/2022 17:42

I always go to places for kids early and they are always practically empty until gone 10. Most parents seem to get there at nearer 11. So whilst it’s lovely having places quieter, I do understand why a lot of places don’t open earlier as not worth their while.

FurryDandelionSeekingMissile · 27/11/2022 17:42

Most things aren't open the whole time their customer base is awake. Adults are usually up till something like 11pm or midnight but lots of things close by early evening.

Lockheart · 27/11/2022 17:43

Children don't need bells-and-whistles entertainment 24/7.

10am is perfectly acceptable.

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 27/11/2022 17:43

10am is early enough! If it's a weekend then the staff can enjoy a later start and if it's weekdays then it gets school run out of the way

TimBoothseyes · 27/11/2022 17:44

Because some places need things to be done before opening...or do people think staff rock up at 10 am ready to go?

transformandriseup · 27/11/2022 17:44

I often wonder why so many places centred around young children close on a Monday.

NameInUseAlreadyAgain · 27/11/2022 17:45

Had friends used to say shall we meet mid morning I would say 9am? That was mid morning for me. Turns out they meant around 11 ha ha

carefulcalculator · 27/11/2022 17:51

Oh I agree - the number of times we would be up at 6 and then just waiting endlessly to be able to go to somewhere!

SalmonEile · 27/11/2022 17:52

@transformandriseup The weekends are probably busy and they either do it to give the staff a break or do deep cleaning or audit equipment

Pixiedust1234 · 27/11/2022 17:54

Is this for Sunday opening? Isnt there some law that stops them from opening earlier....

If you are that bothered OP then please apply for a job there so other parents can make use of your earlier opening times. Would a 6am start suit you?

Changedma · 27/11/2022 17:54

Can’t really relate to this.

Yes I’ve had early risers but I tend to watch TV in pyjamas and drink coffee until we are ready to face the day.

School run feels early - obviously I manage it fine - because it’s a lot of getting everyone ready in only an hour or two. Weekends mean you can just do it all more slowly. Even if somewhere perfect for kids nearby was open at 8.30 I doubt I’d be ready for it.

containsnuts · 27/11/2022 17:57

I hate rushing everywhere for 9am especially at the weekend. I much prefer an activity starting 10am or 11am then it's lunch straight after. We're not morning people though.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 27/11/2022 17:57

They were never open late enough when my DD was little. She slept midnight till noon but all the soft plays etc shut by 6pm. She slept through all the baby classes/groups.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/11/2022 18:01

I think that’s very funny and relatable in a lighthearted way, but I don’t actually think staff should have to be up and working any earlier on a Sunday, no.

NuffSaidSam · 27/11/2022 18:01

I agree OP!

Would be so much more convenient if they were open from 9am.

Some weird comments about the staff! Most things open at 9am or earlier, most people who work start before 9am! It's hardly wildly unreasonable to suggest someone who works at a softplay get there at 8am is it?

SquirrelFan · 27/11/2022 18:03

@Mammyloveswine I didn't see it as entitled. Presumably these places charge entry and can weigh up whether it's worthwhile to open earlier. OP isn't demanding special treatment.

RealBecca · 27/11/2022 18:03

I assume most of the workers are hungover teens on minimum wage and they are being realistic about what time they can actually open.

GAH3 · 27/11/2022 18:04

Our parks don't get unlocked till after 9 which is massively annoying when you've been up since 6, especially in summer 😩

SleepingStandingUp · 27/11/2022 18:07

We go to soft play at 10 because it's quiet, who would actually go out at 6 am just because the kids are up? Just entertain them

Zosime · 27/11/2022 18:12

Or let them entertain themselves. Children don't have to have entertainment laid on every waking hour.
