To hang sweaters/hoodies in wardrobe?

Prior to lockdown I had a lovely wardrobe full of work dresses and suits. But my work closed all its offices and now we're home based full time, only going into an office once a month for a meeting.

Because of this, my work wardrobe is leggings and hoodies. I'm amassing quite the collection. I usually fold them and put them on the shelf above the rail but I've got so many that they keep falling out. So today I packed away all my posh work clothes and used the hangers for my hoodies and jumpers. DH came in the bedroom, laughed and said something about me being modest. I assume this means I have a modest wardrobe with nothing fancy in it ( he wouldn't elaborate when pressed on what he meant). So my question is this - is it weird or 'modest' to have a wardrobe full of sweaters?? And if yes, where do you all keep yours??

I would find it quite strange if someone had a wardrobe full of the same type of clothes with no other variation at all.

I would find it strange if someone had a wardrobe of clothes they never wore and a shelf overflowing with clothes they did wear.

Completely normal, I keep all my hoodies jumpers etc in the wardrobe.

God knows what he meant by 'modest', I'd guess he picked the wrong word then didn't have the whatsits to admit it.

I find hoodies a very difficult item to keep in my wardrobe. They don't seem to go nicely on the shelves if I try to fold them up and hanging them up seems a bit weird. I generally put them over the back of a chair which is not a very satisfactory solution.

I hang jumpers in my wardrobe.

I think you’re a big girl now and allowed to decide how to manage your wardrobe space without the opinion of your husband or the internet.

I have a lot of wardrobes (plus bags of non seasonal clothes in the loft!) I have one for sweatshirts/jumpers which are hung with wire drawers underneath for t shirts and leggings. Another one for skirts and trousers, all hanging in colour order the. Another for dresses and another for coats and jackets. I like to know where to find particular items!
I'm currently in the process of bagging up my summer clothes and sandals for the loft, in labelled bags. Looking forward to getting my winter boots/shoes out of storage next weekend. Please note, although I have a lot of clothes and shoes, I've had many of my well over a decade (some over two) and I have only bought pre loved for the past couple of years. Anything I no longer wear goes to the charity shops.

Both me and DH hang up everything. Not the most efficient for space 🤣 but only underwear and PJs go in drawers

Chouetted · 27/11/2022 16:53

Don't they stretch at the shoulders if you hang them up?

PinkSyCo · 27/11/2022 17:06

It’s not nearly as weird as you worrying about how the organisation of your clothes compares to others. Surely you and your DH have better things to worry about?

This. God, who cares if something is 'weird' or ' normal'? If it works for you, do it. Simple.

It's unreasonable to blindly follow convention when there are perfectly good alternatives that better suit your lifestyle. I have t-shirts on hangers because that's what I wear 95% of the time, and it's fast and convenient to hang them rather than fold them.

Don't worry about whether your clothes storage methods are "weird". Few things matter less. Do what works for you.
