I'm drowning in snot, have a thick head and a general malaise. What do you recommend?

Me too. My whole head feels full.
I have a nasal spray, strepsils, tissues, Vicks, paracetamol and pholcodeine cough medicine.
Nothing is helping. This is my second day in bed.
Any suggestions are more than welcome

Night Nurse liquid so at least you get a decent sleep. Ice lollies, hot drinks, any sweets to suck on, Lift lemon tea, paracetamol or cold and flu tablets during the day.

Worldgonecrazy · 25/11/2022 11:25

Don’t get one in the first place. Steaming over just boiled water for 5-10 minutes and regular dose of Boots Cold &Flu tablets (the ones without caffeine) will nip the symptoms in the bud. Boots seem to be the only brand that work, despite the others having the same ingredients list.

I use this when I'm ill, it doesn't magically make a cold go away but it does help!

Ginger cut up and lemons boiled with honey and 2 paracetamols. Always clears me out and makes my chest feel a lot better.

5th day here and nothing is touching it. Am at the snot/ catarrh stage....throat is easing but ears and head still ache. Managed some toast this morning after 3 days of liquids

Hot Vimto or honey & lemon with boiling water, basically plenty of hot drinks to flush it out.

Unicorn1919 · 25/11/2022 11:30

If its a cold and not flu, don't stay in bed. I work with animals and the one thing we always make sure of when an animal gets the equivalent of a cough or cold is that they get moving. I believe part of the reason so many old people get pnumonia is because they are bed-bound. Moving around is the best thing - get outside and get some fresh air, especially when the sun is out (it is here).

PauliesWalnuts · 25/11/2022 11:32

Honey, lemon and hot water and a daily zinc supplement.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/11/2022 11:32

Whisky with a drop of hot water and a paracetamol before bed ensures a good night's sleep. I agree with the poster who said not to lie around - get moving. Go for a walk.

5foot5 · 25/11/2022 11:34

I find being in the fresh air eases congestion. Other than that lemsip and time.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 25/11/2022 11:34

Very thinly sliced (skin on) lemon and orange, steeped in boiling water with some grated ginger and honey. Keep the orange and lemon in the fridge already sliced so you can make the tea whenever. Have a paracetamol with it and it’s a much nicer Lemsip!

Something spicy, raise your body temp to fight infection

Dotjones · 25/11/2022 11:38

Whisky or brandy are a must if you have a cold, inhale the aroma for a while first to help unblock your nose then drink it.

dottyrobin · 25/11/2022 11:38

In the same but my usual lemsip I can't have when pregnant.
Might try some lemon and ginger tea
