To think phone company were sneaky and dishonest?!

So I got hit with a huge data charge for being out of the country, around £200. I queried this as I hadn’t realised that the time between landing and getting to my hotel (10 minute drive) would have incurred this much, as I went straight onto Wi-Fi.

Oh well, my fault. I’ll pay it. But when I queried it they said the solution they had would be to increase my spending cap. I told them in no uncertain terms that I’d struggle to even pay this so no a solution of spending more money wasn’t the one.

I’ve now found out that they increased the spend cap to £300 anyway snd completely went against what I said. Aibu to think this is just totally unethical?

This happened to me once and EE were really helpful, they reduced the charge by 50% and lowered my cap so it couldnt happen again. Maybe change phone companies if the one you are with is behaving like that.

Can't you fix this on your providers app yourself? You should be able to set your own limits

Probably, but I still think it’s dishonest for me to say no I don’t want the cap increased and they did it anyway. Surely they shouldn’t be allowed to do that.

Yes, you're right they are dishonest. How long until your contract finishes? I wouldn't renew
You would be better off having a sim plan you can trust. Sorry my point was moot
I wouldn't be able to afford a random £200 bill caused by accident. I know they're to make money but surely they could have offered you a waiver
