Festive family photo sessions

Socials seem awash with the usual spate of Christmas-themed family photo session posts at the moment. Whilst it’s nice to see all the twinkly festive cuteness going on, kids dressed as elves etc, it’s made me realise it’s never been on my radar to arrange one of these, never even occurred to me. Come to think of it, never did a newborn shoot with my 2, nothing like that. AIBU to eschew this stuff or am I missing a parental chromosome somewhere?!

People are different. Some people like professional photos, some don't. It's like asking why some people like eating in different kinds of restaurants.

I love getting proper photos done. Much nicer quality than anything I could do myself, and it's lovely to have lots of good photos of the five of us.

YANBU, these shoots are not to everyone's taste. I think they take away the 'magic', IYKWIM. I'd rather see a pic of a friends gappy-grinned DD wearing a wonky tinsel halo as it's much more natural and reminds me of my own childhood.

My friend does them every year as well as the newborn shoots.

if I told you that it cost well over £1000 (probs closer to £2000) for the shoot and the pictures would you believe me?

i have no desire to spend my hard earned cash on pictures of us wearing white shirts, jeans and barefeet.

My Christmas shoot and pictures cost £60, and no white shirts or jeans in sight!

It's a bit of an American Import, isn't it? I think I first saw mention of it on Frasier.

Utter tack. Extra points if they get them printed onto canvas

Not my thing at all but each to their own, if it makes people happy then fair play to them but I hate having my picture taken at the best of times and the entire concept fills me with dread.

As other days each to their own but I really don’t like posed, professional pictures.

Look far too cheesy and tacky imo. Would much rather have natural group photos even if they are not perfect, much more natural to

Several friends who had spent a fortune on wedding photographers don’t have any of the professional photos on display - they all have ones that people have just taken of them, often when they don’t realise they are being taken so much more natural and relaxed
