To ask how to get white T-shirts white again

I’ve got a pile of white tshirts with makeup, sweat and deodorant marks. AIBU to think they are a lost cause? Or does anyone know how to salvage them?

I use ace for whites. Try it on just one t shirt to begin with though.

Also if they're yellow sweat stains use baking soda and water and let sit on the sweat stains. It brings it out.

Soak them in Napisan overnight and then wash with Daz powder and a slug of Napisan

You can buy denture cleaning tablets in a little tube. Sounds a bit odd, but if you dissolve one in water and soak your white tshirt in it for about 20 minutes, it will come out white.

Also, can use these by dissolving in a spray bottle with a bit of water and spray on your mattress and it totally gets rid of mattress stains. I only know this because I had a child who used to wet the bed and someone recommended these and it worked brilliantly.

Or bicarbonate of soda (I think the same as baking soda) works really well as someone above mentioned.

A friend, when washing her DH and DS cricket whites, mixed up the Vanish spray with the Flash Bleach spray...needless to say, she's not bought Vanish again. Grin

Any of the above, plus if you can get them outside, the sun will do it’s bit.
I realise there’s not as much sun at this time of year 😉 Unless you have to, I think white is best left to when the sun contribute.

Deodorant marks come out with vinegar.

carefulcalculator · 23/11/2022 14:14

Deodorant often comes off with vinegar, dabbed on before washing.

Soda crystals will help.

PumpkinQueens · 23/11/2022 14:29

Thank you all. I’ll give your ideas a try.

Like... what, distilled vinegar or malt vinegar?

White vinegar e.g. www.sarsons.co.uk/vinegar-tips

These home remedies never really work for me, I tried some of these before and they work a little bit but not fully

Dr Beckman does a sweat stain remover which is excellent so I’ve thrown money at the problem and use that

Scoop of Vanish in the drum (plus usual detergent) and a 60 degree wash. 90 if it's kill or cure.

Note: Tesco's own tub of vanish is half the price of the branded stuff and is just as good.

Bicarbonate of soda white vinegar 1 cup each and a squirt of washing up liquid, hot water. works every time on whites - it surprising how dirty the water looks after soaking the items for a few hours or overnight
