Started my job in September and I love my job. It's a completely new venture in something different and has great career prospects. I was on my own as it was a new team and it was difficult juggling the work just me and my manager so they took on someone else. Same job role as myself. Same pay band etc. She seemed nice enough but it was very clear from the start she was there for the money rather than the want to do well or progress. However my boss was concerned also and raised it with our area manager as her attitude to work was definitely lacking and they said we needed to give her atleast 3 months..... 6 weeks on and I am ready to kill her!

She has become unbearable. She is young lacks life experience and is very mouthy. She sits on her phone all day and has no interest in learning anything. As a result I am doing the work still for both of us. I have been grinning and bearing it as I honestly thought she wouldn't be there for much longer that she would be sacked.

Last week it all kicked off. She was extremely disrespectful to my boss and told him to sit in the corner and shut up! He said nothing to her she then proceeded to tell him how she thought he had an unbearable personality and if he ever met her husband he would be better of keeping his mouth shut as to be frank he would hate him. He just took it! Within half hour he left and went home early and came in the next day and confided she had very much upset him. He was even tearful. So I told her straight when she came in how rude and disrespectful she was and she did apologize.

However I am so upset to find out today that in her monthly meeting she has been commended on her work and her efforts and how she is the future of our business how she is going to go far and is excelling! I was shocked as to be frank she is the polar opposite. I did ask my boss afterward in private if this was true to which he confirmed! I said but I don't understand you wanted to fire her last week? She doesn't do her work? She is rude and refuses to do anything you ask of her? The only thing she is capable of is answering a phone! Her behaviour is getting worse not better! Her attitude stinks. He moans she is mentally draining and leaves early all the time and he slags her off at any given opportunity.

I am at loss. Deflated and I am so upset at the prospect of having to carry her lazy ass for the foreseeable future. My boss basically leaves or works from home and leaves me to it now. He has basically said she is better than nobody. Personally I can't see it. I have told him she is a financial drain on our business and she does not deliver. She is rude and makes the environment uncomfortable and not a I've place to be! Am I being unreasonable. He knows my feelings. I am actually starting to think of requesting a transfer to a different team? Especially now she thinks she is the bloody bees.knees

Ask for the transfer they clearly don't intend to deal with her

Wibbly1008 · 21/11/2022 20:57

She will be there for the rest of her days. Your boss is weak and wants to leave you to deal with her and do her work, then kisses her arse to avoid drama. You’ll have to leave or transfer. It’s sad, but better that than you end up working for her !

MustBeTrueThen · 21/11/2022 20:57

Why are you doing any of her work? Do your own and leave her to it. And as much as its frustrating I wouldn't worry about what was said at her review, that was her review no one else's. Just carry on doing a great job and hold your head high x

Sp3849 · 21/11/2022 21:01

@MustBeTrueThen sadly our workload is judged on our team performance. If things aren't done it is not her that gets it in the neck it's the whole team. If our performance isn't up to scratch then our branch would be shut down. We are a new team as the last ones all basically didn't perform well enough and earn enough profit for the company

You sound very judgmental at the same time as sounding like you don't know anything what you're talking about. Presumably if the boss had a problem with her, then he would deal with her actions accordingly, but he hasn't, which seems like he thinks there might not be a problem there. Which begs the question: Why are you getting involved and trying to make it your business? You sound quite jealous of her tbh!

Sp3849 · 22/11/2022 18:44

@Keyansier yes I agree I am the one with the issue and yes I am jealous. If only I got to sit on my phone all day surfing social media whilst she did my job for me? It doesn't matter now anyway. I have been offered a higher position today in a different team. So the hard work was noticed by higher management and it paid off!

good for you! Disappointing your boss couldn’t be honest with her and it seems just deserts that there is no one to carry her

WineIsMyMainVice · 22/11/2022 18:59

Is there an HR department that you can contact?
If not could you phone the Area Manager and ask for a discreet ‘off the record’ conversation? If you do this make sure that you state factual information not a character assassination.

Good luck op

Hoplesscynic · 22/11/2022 19:09

Shocking and disgusting! She sounds absolutely vile and your boss is a spineless idiot.

So what are they praising her for exactly?

By all means do request a transfer, but also tell them (HR or your boss's boss) the reasons: you find it really demoralising and unacceptable that she sits on her phone all day whilst you pick up ALL the work, and she is not only left unchallenged but praised. Also tell them that her attitude is extremely unprofessional, rude and disgusting and that it has upset you VERY MUCH (even if not directed at you, but the environment she has created). Lay it on thick.

When they hear that, they'll realise they are about lose you because of her and I bet someone puts her straight immediately. But If they are stupid enough to let you go and keep a lazy ass imbecile like her, well more fool them! You'd be laughing on your way to your new team 🙂

Are you for real? Or just lucky enough never to have had a weak, useless manager?
