To expect people to use the doorbell

Many times recently I have "missed" a delivery - when I have definitely been in but no one has rung the doorbell, so items are left outside or in the bin!!. Tonight we ordered a takeaway - it just happened that I was in the hallway when there was a faint knock on the door - would never have heard it otherwise! Aibu to think if there's a doorbell there - please use it!!

Quite often the doorbell doesn’t work (and it’s impossible to tell from outside), and if it’s dark and the doorbell isn’t lit up, it’s as good as invisible.

But if your doorbell is illuminated and works audibly, yanbu.

I get this too. They knock on the door which I can't always hear or the window.

We have a note on the door and our doorbell glows up and still people knock super quietly. It’s a pain.

Same here. Drives me nuts.

Yup we have a ring door bell it lights up, we have. A motion sensor light that also lights up the door bell and some idiots still knock. There is nothing but staircase near my front door I won’t hear you. Thankfully Alexa let’s off a lovely “MOTION DETECTED AT HOUR FRONT DOOR!”

My postmen have stopped using the doorbell after we installed a Ring doorbell. It's really annoying.

I wonder if they don't like being spoken to through the microphone or being asked to leave the parcel somewhere?

I've asked my ex to swap it back for my old doorbell.

Mine is not a ring (or similar), but is lit and I also have lights outside my door. The bell push is very visible so no discernable reason not to use it!!

We get this with parcel deliveries sometimes.
Someone is in, yet they leave it on the doorstep and drive off.

We have a LOT of footfall go past our front door, you'd be very lucky to have anything still there after about 2 mins.
I would prefer they knock - it's louder / more reliable, but do something to let people inside know you are there.

I have a Ring and I think some people think it's not recording them if they don't knock. (Sorry mate, it is).
