AIBU to wonder why people keep ringing saying they have a missed call from me?

I keep getting calls on my mobile from random strangers saying they have a missed call from me. I haven't called any of these people. What is going on?

Scammers can duplicate your phone number.

A cold calling or scam company has spoofed your phone number to make it appear its calls are from your number. The calls appear to come from a UK number and people are more likely to answer them. Also, if the caller adds the incoming number to a block list, it doesn't stop the scammers' real number because it was disguised.

It lasts about a day then the scammers move onto another number. It’s massively annoying!

A scammer is covering their real number and they pick numbers at random to cover it. You haven't been targeted specifically. It is likely to be highly temporary and only last a day or so. I've had this twice before - other than the annoyance for you and the people who have been called, it's no harm done.

You don't need to change your number, after a day or two it will stop as they will have moved to a different number

I had this. It stopped after a day or two. I did report it to O2 (or whoever I was with at the time), not sure if that helped it end quicker.

I've had this - number called me and claims I called them.

I've been the one who has missed a call and then called the number back only to have someone annoyed at me! I'm like you called me, how else would I have your number.
