Bizarre shoulder/muscle pain flares up only when my period starts

Has anyone ever experienced something like this? I took a break from my birth control the first half of the year, started it up again in the summer and it just occurred to me that since then, anytime my period comes around my shoulder flares up and pain reaches as far as my right side of neck, chest, ribs, pretty much my entire right upper torso gets so achey. I am 32 so obviously not perimenopausal.

I had no prior injury or something. I’ve large breasts but not large enough to to blame. My GP has no clue either ( suggested acupuncture and to change my birth control to the mini pill but at this point I’m tired of new prescriptions and messing with my period. Ugghhh

Have a look at diaphragmatic endometriosis

HappyHamsters · 17/11/2022 18:47

Ovarian cysts and ectopics can cause right shoulder pain, it could be gynae related, can your gp refer you to gynae.

I was going to read up on endometriosis too. Check in with your doc.

I was also going to suggest endometriosis. It can cause pain all over the body.

@quietnightmare thanks , my symptoms are so similar to diaphragmatic endometriosis. I just looked but my GP is so unhelpful. Thanks

I think my GP can refer to Gynae but he is not very helpful at all, no F2F appt, I may see Gynae privately for initial consultation

Did you ever get to the bottom of this?
I am exactly the same every month, been up since 3am with my shoulder/ neck and I can't take anymore.. I've suffered with this for years! 😩😩

Sounds like endometriosis. I have the same pain but mine is on my liver. Please don't visit a standard gynae, if you are going to go private there are numerous endo specialists you can see. Endo is a full body disease. The mini pill does help as it stops my periods (and subsequently the pain) but I got other issues from using that. Don't let them try and give you Zoladex or anything like that, its basically a temp menopause for 6 months and it the pain will just return. You'd need surgery to excise.
