Anyone here ever been evicted by their landlord, or know about evictions?

My landlord has increased my rent from early next year. I can't afford it. I am budgeted up to the eyeballs and I can't find the money. It took me 6 months for someone to accept me as a lone parent to a 3yo to rent a property so I don't know I'll be able to find anything before the rent increase. I have a feeling I will end up being evicted. I don't know what else to do. Has anyone been through this process before? Will the council house me if this does happen? I've tried to negotiate with my landlord but he's holding firm. I'm really stressed and upset by the whole situation.

Try and get in touch with Shelter, they will be able to go through it with you - and their website should have some general information about the process too.

The gist of it is that you will be served notice to leave, then you must stay put and a section 21 will be served. You must then stay put until you are evicted by bailiffs and then you can present to the council as homeless. If you leave before this they will deem you to have made yourself intentionally homeless. It is really crappy but sadly that is the way you have to do it nowadays.

It's so stressful. And I'm sure the council will likely put me somewhere awful.

Here in Wales where I am we've run out of hotel rooms so the council are putting up homeless over the border in England.

Can you get a better paid job or as my friend has done got evening work waiting on?

I'm working up to a promotion at work but the job isn't being advertised for 8 months or so. I can't work in the evenings. I'm a lone parent so the money would just go on childcare and my son would never see me. He's already in childcare 8-6 every day and I always jump at the chance to finish and pick him up early.
