To be annoyed ex didn't give DS anything to eat

DS is 12, he was sent home from school on Friday as he was vomiting. He vomited a few more times at home but was fine on Saturday and all day Sunday so he was due to go back to school. Vomiting started again very early yesterday morning, he spent most the day asleep but I did give him some toast and he managed to keep it down.

I had work today so ex agreed to come round and stay with him, when I got home he told me ex hadn't given him anything to eat so he tried to eat a packet of crisps but he took them off him.

I spoke to ex and he told me DS was complaining of feeling sick and if he actually did he wouldn't have wanted anything to eat, and he took the crisps off him for the same reasons and believes DS is taking advantage of me being ‘soft’ and taking his word for him being sick yesterday (he woke me up and told me).

Am I right to be annoyed or is ex right?

What flavour crisps?

Aldith · 15/11/2022 20:39

I wouldn’t have allowed crisps but I would have offered toast. I feel sick if I go a whole day without eating and would have wondered the same about DC.

Girasoli · 15/11/2022 20:41

I think he is BU, lots of people want something salty like crisps or crackers to settle their stomachs when they are ill.

Hope your DS is starting to feel better now.

Keroppi · 15/11/2022 20:41

Well seems obvious why he's your ex, nasty man!

Tothemoonandbackx · 15/11/2022 20:44

Along as he wanted to eat something after being sick for the past few days, I wouldn't have said no to a packet of crisps. I'm the same after being ill, I want something light and easy to eat Xx hope your DS is feeling better soon x

Keroppi · 15/11/2022 20:45

Woops posted too soon. I always want something light, carby and salty when feeling nauseous! I had bad morning sickness & spent most my pregnancies living off crisps and toast. Bit mean of him to not even offer him soup or toast. And he's hardly lying/you being too soft when he was literally sent home from school, so there's "evidence"!

😂😂😂😂

Eeeek I'm being devils advocate- but he was sick Friday in school and at home. Grand all day sat, all day Sunday. Puked Monday morning but you didn't see it, then no puke all day Monday. And no puking Tuesday? It does sound a bit suspicious.

but he should have given him toast.

veganbacon · 15/11/2022 20:54

Should have given him toast

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/11/2022 20:58

You ex is being very U. He should have tried to find something sensible that your DS could eat and might fancy, not left him so hungry that he resorted to crisps. That’s part of looking after a sick person - to make them suitable food!

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 15/11/2022 21:15

So what if he wanted crisps? Poor child has been sick! Let him eat something. Does your son have form for lying? Skipping school or does he have issues in school? Not every child lies, some are just sick.

wicoh39270 · 15/11/2022 21:27

I did think it was odd how he randomly was sick again early on Monday but I don't think he was lying as he seemed unwell. Ex didn't offer him any food, so he went and got the crisps. He said he ate a few (one or two) and ex then noticed and took them off him and told him to go back to bed. The crisps were salt and vinegar.

Crisps are fine but I wouldn't have thought salt and vinegar were a good idea on a dodgy stomach 😬

wicoh39270 · 15/11/2022 21:47

We only had salt and vinegar in the house and DS was obviously hungry so he wanted them.

Should they?

Hate the word should.

I'd have suggested toast or something plain over salt and vinegar crisps personally 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't think ex did anything wrong.
