To be annoyed at British Gas about the £66 payments

I pay by direct debit. I was meant to get £66 refunded each month from October.

They haven’t refunded it. I contacted them a week ago- asked for £132 to be credited to my account which they agreed to but I haven’t had it and was told today just to wait a bit longer. I’m £800 in credit on my account as well. No payments are pending into my account today so I’ll have to contact them again (and every time that takes at least an hour to get through to anyone even on chat)

Is anyone else having a similar issue with them?

They’ve now told me for the ‘safety’ of customers I have to request a refund via general enquires instead. When I asked why I’d been lied to on 2 previous occasions they said I could request all of my credit back if I wanted

Is this for your electric? I only have gas with BG and not had the £66

Pineapplemeringue · 15/11/2022 21:04

I have both had and electric with b gas I think it’s just for both though not sure

The £66 is being applied to electricity accounts as most people have electricity whereas not everyone has gas

whoamitojudge · 15/11/2022 21:14

@dementedpixie I’ve just googled it and yes, it’s just for gas.
should’ve done that first instead of posting 😂😂

I had the same issue and called them last Wednesday. They told me there are quite a few customers having this issue and filled in a form while I was on the call. The money was in my bank this morning so hopefully all sorted.

This is off on a tangent although might be helpful to those with shell, you can now reduce your DD online whereas you couldn't before.

I have a massive credit too and they tried to increase my DD without telling me (which DD guarantee says you are not supposed to do). So I reduced it down.

Email of complaint has been ignored of course.

Cheeky f**kers

They are making it over complicated. I'm with SSE and they pay £66 into my bank account 3 days after my DD is paid.

Itsabitnotcold · 16/11/2022 09:27

Take your whole 800 quid out, insane amount of money to let them keep.

I think this is what was meant to happen ! But it seems it’s not automatic as they said and I have to chase and chase

@Pineapplemeringue it is paid to your energy supplier. Not to YOU.

Poppiesway1 · 16/11/2022 10:05

my £66 takes over two weeks to be refunded back in my bank. Funny that their quicker than that to take money off us all

If you pay by dd you get £66 refunded to bank account each month

Check your bank account which pays british gas. We thought we hadn't received ours (as not shown on our BG account) However, have since seen this has been credited directly into our bank.
Bit silly really as I had hoped to be added to our BG account to help directly and not been eaten up with our other outgoings!
Good luck, I'm sure you'll have received.

user16480478 · 16/11/2022 10:18

The large credit on your account may be because they usually only bill twice a year, I'm about £750 in credit but haven't had a bill for about 4 months so my DDs are accumulating but not on the bill yet. I pay about £185 a month and it says I'm on track, that amount compares with the £100 DD I paid last year so I seem to be paying about the right amount

This is not true. Ours is being credited to our bank. I had hoped it would be direct to our energy account (as has my dad's and many friends) but BG seems to have returned (IF paying D/D) to the bank account.

user16480478 · 16/11/2022 10:35

BG credited ours to our bank, DD went out on the 15th and £66 went into bank a few days later, I also got an email at the time saying this was happening

dementedpixie · 16/11/2022 10:48

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 16/11/2022 10:05

@Pineapplemeringue it is paid to your energy supplier. Not to YOU.

It depends on your supplier.

BG and others are supposed to pay it back to your bank account after the usual direct debit has been paid.

Octopus and others are reducing the direct debit and paying the £66 to the energy account.

It totally depends which supplier you are with as to how the money is being used.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 16/11/2022 11:49

Still no sign of this month’s £66 and it’s been over 10 days now. DH simply hasn’t got time to ring them today as he’s flat out at work and I can’t because the account is in his name 🤬.
