Why do people spend so much on a wedding dress just to wear a different dress to the after party?

I just don't understand the logic.
My cousin has spent £850 on a dress to wear to the actual ceremony but has just bought a £75 dress to wear to the party afterwards as it'll be easier to dance in.
Fair enough but I don't understand the logic of spending £850 on a dress that'll be worn for around 2 hours, surely it's a waste of money?

My friend did this and I don’t get it either. It meant the people invited to the evening do didn’t even see her actual wedding dress, just the cheapy one!

I don’t understand it either. If I were to buy a wedding dress I would want to wear it for as long as possible and let as many people as possible see me wearing it.

Anything can be viewed as waste of money.

If the person has the money and values the item then it isn’t a waste to them, it is?

£850 is hardly a lot for a wedding dress anyway.

Keyansier · 12/11/2022 13:53

Gosh, I could not personally get so worked up over something as insignificant as this. If you're that bothered about costs then surely you can't afford to pay attention to your cousin's wedding fees?

Runningintolife · 12/11/2022 13:55

Its just not very practical or dignified to dance and get drunk in a wedding dress, that's all. Each to their own.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/11/2022 13:57

I've wondered that too

WhyOY · 12/11/2022 13:58

That's not even that expensive for a wedding dress. If she wants two dresses why does it bother you?

mydogisthebest · 12/11/2022 14:06

I don't know any bride that has done this. They all kept their wedding dress on all day and evening. I thought that was the usual thing to do

Wifflywafflywoo · 12/11/2022 15:04

I've spent £1500 on a beautiful dress (includes shoes, fittings and veil) but I will definitely have something to change in to later on. I'll wear it for as long as possible but it's so heavy and hot I doubt I'll make the full day. It'll be getting a dry clean then sold on once I'm done (it's already second hand!).

To look at its very simple, lace, no poofyness or bling. I was really shocked at just how heavy it was! So yeh, I can only imagine how uncomfortable some of the bigger, fancier ones are.

Stroopwaffle5000 · 12/11/2022 15:06

I don't get it either, but then I can't imagine spending that much money on a dress I'll only wear for one day!!

Chesneyhawkes1 · 12/11/2022 15:35

I wore mine all day, all evening and I then I went clubbing in it 🤦‍♀️ it's ruined now 😂
