Not really aibu but it’s attracted no replies in cost of living so posting here for traffic.
Im thinking of looking for job about 16 hrs/week which is what would work for my current situation. Do they exist? If you work 16ish hours and are happy sharing your annual salary, please do, and say what job you do Thanks

I did when DS was small. Minimum wage at a call centre.

I work roughly 18 hours a week term time and earn roughly £30k pro rata (so just shy of £15k). I'm a project manager.

I employ someone who does 16hrs per week. £10ish per hr. It suits her - she has 2 school age children, so does two full days with us.

barneymcgroo · 10/11/2022 15:09

Oh, and it's a cooking job.

16.5 earns me £24000 a year totally depends on the role

Lightsoutlondon · 10/11/2022 15:59

Years ago I worked 19hrs a week and earned about 16k for that, however it should be noted it wasn't a job that was advertised, I negotiated the hours following a maternity leave. They created the part time role because they wanted to keep me having already seen that I performed well in the role.
A lot of people assume they can give up work and later pick up a part time job but in practice it's much easier to negotiate to part time from a full time role having proven yourself. Not many jobs other than minimum wage /zero hours /retail or hospitality are routinely advertised as part time.

I’ve just started a 16hrs a week job after been a sahm for a number of years, its with a supermarket hourly rate is £10.10.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 10/11/2022 16:05

Yea very much depends on the role.
Most people I know in decent money working part time were full time and negotiated a step down. Otherwise is minimum or low by the hour stuff generally.

Thank you all for replies. Very useful to have an understanding of the salary range and types of roles. Daunting!
