I’m finally buying on my own after a horrendous 18 month long break up. I can’t wait to live on my own. I’m looking for a two bed with outside space in a specific pocket of south London, and have found a flat I really like (2 well-proportioned bedrooms, a kitchen/ living area that will work well for parties, and a little balcony) that’s within my budget.
However, the reason it’s in my budget is that it’s on the South Circular - a very busy and congested road. I went for a second viewing yesterday and I could hear the noise of the traffic in the bedroom. Not super loudly, as there is good double glazing, and the bedroom faces away from the road - but it certainly wasn’t silent.
The noise isn’t actually my main concern - it’s the pollution. The kitchen/ living room faces out onto the busy main road, so I don’t think I’d want to open those windows very much. However, the bedroom and balcony face onto trees at the back, so I’d feel fine having those open.
Has anyone else lived on a busy main road before? How did you manage the noise/ pollution? I just don’t think I’ll find anything else that fits my budget with the two bedrooms and balcony - so unsure what to do.
Any advice from homeowners/ previous homeowners/ renters on busy main roads much appreciated!
