To change birthday plans…or am I being flakey friend?

Friend and I have have birthdays a few days apart. This year hers is in the week mine is on a Saturday. We are going out the Saturday before her birthday (some o,d girlfriend as her partner away) and may go out on her actual birthday.

she said if I was doing anything for my birthday on the Saturday she was free and I said probably go out for a curry with some mutual friends and booked a table. Haven’t asked other friends yet.

dh has just been invited by his boss at work to make up a table at a charity night on my birthday…it sounds fun, I like them, don’t know them, and if it wasn’t for the loose curry arrangement I’d say yes.

am 8 being flakey to say I’m doing that on my birthday instead…

No it's fine. It's a loose arrangement and it's your birthday! You still have other plans with her for her birthday. Tell her soon so she has notice and can make other plans if she wants.

Tell her today. It's fine though, it's your birthday so what you like.

Just rebook the curry night for another weekend, if you make it end Nov/early Dec then it can be a combined Christmas night out. Two birds, one stone and all that.

You’d made a plan to do something together on the Saturday with her?

I think it’s flakey and I wouldn’t cancel.

If she’s a good friend she won’t mind at all just rebook for a different night

merrymelodies · 10/11/2022 07:31

Not flaky at all! Just explain the situation to your friend and rearrange it for another night.

Everyone is allowed to change plans sometimes.

You're only the flakey friend if you constantly do it!
