To think I shouldn't need to give meter readings if I have a smart meter?

We have a smart meter for gas and electric. Both utilities with the same company. We pay for what we use each month via DD (not a fixed amount each month). For some reason, the electricity bill is always accurate meter readings, and the gas isn't. Yet the meter readings recorded on the smart meter account are accurate.

So the smart meter readings for gas on the account area of the company website are correct, but the meter readings on the bill are not.

E.g. smart meter is 1758. Website smart meter reading is 1758. Bill is estimated 1860.

I don't understand why? I don't give meter readings anymore because of the smart meter, and the company doesn't ask for them.

AIBU to think if the company is receiving smart meter readings they should be using them?

I wouldn’t pay for more than I’m using so I’d be messaging to ask what the issue is

Have you changed suppliers since getting the smart meter? Most smart meters don't work again once you change suppliers so you'd go back to estimated.

Or is your meter far away from your house? Some smart meters just don't work depending on distance but they don't know until its been installed.

I also wonder what the point of a smart meter is. Ours give electric reading but not gas. Its the same company supplying both but we have to take a regular gas reading and enter it manually. When we do this on their website they insist we enter an electric reading as well otherwise it won't accept any reading. The smart meter is pointless.

Nope. We've never changed supplier (since moving in 2017) smart meter was installed in 2019.

The company are definitely receiving the smart meter readings - I can see them on the website.
