Aibu to ask you what you're paid an hour?
I work as an HCA doing phlebotomy and injections.
I also do clinical admin.
I get £9.86 an hour
Is this the normal going rate for a HCA?

Considering moving professions to a different, higher paid job as it just doesn't pay the bills.

That's the wage in the two hospitals that my DD'S work in. They earn more as ward hostesses. Waking nights in private firms can be upto £18 an hour. There's jobs such as cleaning and moving the equipment that pay more than HCA roles.

It's such a poor wage compared to what is expected of us

McDonald’s, Lidl and Aldi all pay more. It’s shit pay and why so many wonderful HCAs are leaving 😔

I work as a carer in a care home focused on people with dementia and I'm paid £12 an hour.

I've stuck to it at this wage as I do really enjoy the job, but think I'll have to look else where as it's just not enough with all the price increases

It's wildly underpaid. You could look at doing some agency shifts to bolster your earnings although it can be competitive for HCAs (but the money is good). If you enjoy the job do you think you'd enjoy further study to be a NA? Many trusts now offer funded training on the job and although it's obviously different to HCA, depending what elements you enjoy it would allow you to earn more.

Support worker for adults with learning disabilities.

£10.45.

Teaching assistants are very similar. For all we do now - interventions etc, shops like Aldi and Lidl pay higher in my area.
No wonder HCAs and Teaching Assistants leave 🙁
