to not want our neighbour ''going over'' our energy bills ....

DH has had a text message from a neighbour. A nice chat to in the street neighbour, but we're not close. DH reads it out.

They are wanting to ''make a little money'' and ''need 'guinea pigs''. They ask if we would we be prepared to go and ''watch a presentation''.

I'm thinking god, ok, as long as it's not too long. It's going to be oils or tupperware or something. Then DH continues; ''We'll go over your energy bills together and see where you can save money ...''.

Will we heck!

How would you reply?
(if you didn't want to go)

And, as an aside, how do they make money out of this?!

They’re likely reps for utility warehouse, which I believe is an mlm company that flogs you energy and various other utilities. Avoid!!

misskatamari · 07/11/2022 20:43

I’d personally reply with something vague like “no thank you, we’re happy with our current energy plan and usage”

Tallerthanmost · 07/11/2022 20:44

Definitely sounds like a pyramid type thing.
A magical device that will cut your bills. Or herbalife.
My money is on herbalife.

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 07/11/2022 20:45

Just say no thanks if you don’t want to.

Just say no thanks

It is one hundred percent a mum scheme.

Yayyayitsaholiholiday · 07/11/2022 20:46

It will be utility warehouse. They trap you for hours with their presentations……. Don’t agree to it!!

nannynick · 07/11/2022 20:46

Money coach?
More likely a UW rep.

Mlm not mum!

JooezHautbois · 07/11/2022 20:48

Probably UW. The presentation does drag on but I'm with them and tbh am quite happy. Good customer service and tech service. Prices seem good. Others may well have different experiences.

Bumzoo · 07/11/2022 20:49

No thanks, we've got a really great rate and no chance you will swap.

pastabakeonaplate · 07/11/2022 20:50

Just say no that's alright

Laiste · 07/11/2022 20:50

I'm so glad i asked! Thanks folks.

Not heard of Utility Warehouse. MLM you say ...

God it's a bit awkward isn't it?

We'll say no then def.
I like the ''no thanks we're happy with our provider'' [happy smile] ect.

Our neighbour did the same - we were the second people she'd presented to. She came over, we told her we compare what's on offer for bills via billbuddy, and she didn't have a better option than we were already on. She ran through her presentation as practice and it was nice to chat to her. I'd just say you already monitor your bills via billbuddy or similar so you know you're on the best deal already

This. Never saw a presentation but a friend recommended them and they came in cheaper than the company I was with. Good customer service too.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 07/11/2022 20:52

I never heard of this Utility Warehouse thing! Useful warning.

CharlotteUnaNatalieThompson · 07/11/2022 20:52

I'd just reply "no thanks"

Too much in the excuse gives them something to argue back with. If they come back trying to persuade you you can just repeat, or if they ask who "I don't want to thanks"

So they literally go through your energy bills, and how you use your electricity?
Your habits ect?

(we don't have any interesting habits 😂)

If they ask WHY not who...

Shannith · 07/11/2022 20:54

It's utility warehouse. We may share the same neighbour.

No no no no no - you are hit a Guinea pig - they are taught to say that. It's a terrible sales pitch. Avoid.

Shadeelane · 07/11/2022 20:55

I'd bet money on UT. Someone I know wanted to practise her presentation on me. Made out I was helping her out. Her mentor was on the zoom call with us which she forgot to mention. It was bullshit and they were just trying to sign me up. I wasn't impressed. They're a legit company but the way they recruit people is pure MLM shitesterism.

Eeek! Village? Or town?

The Billbuddy thing mentioned by pp is a good idea. I can easily see that mentioning a specific energy co. would throw up more questions.

Forget it, and those room heaters that use next to no electricity and heat the room up in seconds.

The first is likely to be a get poor quick scheme and the second is re-writing the laws of physics.

The only way to use less electricity….. switch stuff off, live in a cooler house, wash yourself and clothes less frequently, wear a jumper.

comfortablyfrumpy · 07/11/2022 21:07

Sounds like Utility Warehouse, very badly pitched. Sounds like the full pitch would be painful and worth swerving!!

To be fair, I have been a customer for years - very happily. I went with a rep who was normal and helpful though.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 07/11/2022 21:15

Will there be drinks and food? If so I’d just download an image of someone else’s bill and hang out as long they were serving. 🍻

Laiste · 07/11/2022 21:16

I think i'm not even going to mention BBuddy. She might be with them and start asking about that!

We'll just say we're happy and wouldn't switch.

''The only way to use less electricity….. switch stuff off, live in a cooler house, wash yourself and clothes less frequently, wear a jumper.''

Yup.
