To ask how to sell gold jewellery?

Long story short my MIL has acquired quite a lot of gold rings and necklaces over the years and is now looking to consolidate the value into one main piece. It’s mostly 9k / 14k with some decent diamonds and other gemstones around 30 pieces in total. Is now a good time to sell and is it best to take the whole lot at once or in small batches? Is it possible to get better prices for the rings with diamonds?

I understand that gold has a relatively low value atm, and that selling jewellery isn't as profitable as you might think.

Ask at a couple of local jewellers to see what they'll offer you.

Take the gold to a jeweller they will value it for you.

When I sold some gold just before the pandemic I foolishly sold it to a jewellers who just gave the gold value -one piece he gave a measly £40 for then had it up in his window for £400 two weeks later! I’d have been better off selling it on eBay where people happily pay for the item they like rather than just the cost of the gold or whatever.

I thought that actually gold is at v high market value.some odd bits you can sell to places such as Hatton Garden -just one of many places that will buy your gold.Hsvd used them in the past and got a good price by weight

I sold some jewellery recently - some to a jeweller in town and most of it to an antique centre that specialised in jewellery.

Depends where you live, but if you’re near the Midlands go to the Jewllery Quarter in Birmingham on a Saturday morning.
Loads of places who will buy it off you, don’t take the first offer get a few quotes from a few different shops.

I’d try giving Sotheby’s a call if you’re in the London area. If they can’t help, they’ll know who can.

I would get them valued and cleaned and put them on eBay - if they are old there maybe more value in the design.

Be wary of places that pay per weight. I flogged some old rubbish jewellery including a damaged ring. I wasn't expecting much for it, I think I got £40. But I was stunned to accidentally learn the ring I was told would be melted had been auctioned & sold for £90. I have some more stuff I want to flog now, Hatton garden sounds like a good idea.
