To think it's ridiculous that the "Be Kind" movement applies to everyone except politicians?

I've just seen a thread on BBC (will try and post it below) that a 11m Liz Truss effigy is to be burned at a Guy Fawkes event this weekend...

AIBU to think considering all of the Be Kind movement dialogue that applies to actors, actresses, public figures, influencers, Love Island contestants should also be applied to politicians?

This is someone's mother, daughter, auntie ect.... I think it's disgusting! Really bad taste!

The Be Kind "movement" was absolute nonsense.

AnneLovesGilbert · 03/11/2022 15:31

FFS, not again. Everything about “be kind” is a fucking joke, it’s used to silence women and a load of mealy mouthed sanctimonious bollocks. It’s a mercy it’s dying a death despite posters on MN trying to breathe life back into it at least once a week.

If you want to sympathise with our much disgraced recent PM start a thread about that and don’t hide behind this angle.

WallaceinAnderland · 03/11/2022 15:32

AnneLovesGilbert · 03/11/2022 15:33

This is someone's mother, daughter, auntie ect....

Assad has a wife and kids. Still a murdering insane bastard. Putin’s got kids and a girlfriend or two. Likewise. Having relatives doesn’t mean you’re exempt from criticism.

YellowTreeHouse · 03/11/2022 15:33

BeKind is bullshit.

sunflower25049 · 03/11/2022 15:40

@YellowTreeHouse @WallaceinAnderland @Weeboo Fair enough... everyone is entitled to their opinions.

@AnneLovesGilbert You're entitled to yours too, and you might be right, having relatives probably doesn't make you exempt from criticism. But you referred to 2 war criminals that have killed thousands of people? Is it not extreme and in bad taste to burn a figure of a PM?

Who even mentions the be kind movement nonsense anymore?

Dotjones · 03/11/2022 15:45

I think there are plenty of "actors, actresses, public figures" and ALL "influencers, Love Island contestants" who should have their effigies burnt before we get down to Liz Truss. I mean, it's not a high bar, but there are only so many effigies that can be built and torched, so lets prioritise.

This!

OP you might want to consider the reasons why people are burning an effigy of her. She has wreaked havoc in an already unstable financial climate which has caused devastation to many people. She should be facing criminal charges but instead will be creaming money from the taxpayer for the rest of her life. We're stuck with this vile government, there won't be a GE til 2024 so this is a way for people to get across how they're feeling and just how much damage that swivel eyed twat has done. I'd only add Boris, and the rest of them.

WallaceinAnderland · 03/11/2022 15:45

Be kind doesn't exist OP. It's just men telling women to shut up.

If you want to post about an act of hate against a woman, you would be better not to try and link it to that. No is kinder or less kind than they would be any way. There are arseholes and nothing will change that.

Be Kind was basically shut up women
it can now and can always fuck right off

The Be Kind "movement" was absolute nonsense.

This only appeared as a direct result of Caroline Flack committing suicide. It's been weaponised ever since.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 03/11/2022 15:50

Like her or not, I agree that this is absolutely disgusting.

PeekAtYou · 03/11/2022 15:51

Be Kind was a movement for one weekend when Caroline Flack died. The people who keep it going are the most unkind in society.
Bonfire Night is hardly a kind occasion. (I am thinking of the pets traumatized by the fireworks as well as victims of accidents involving fireworks and bonfires)

DomesticShortHair · 03/11/2022 15:52

It doesn’t, and never has, applied to me.

PeekAtYou · 03/11/2022 15:55

Is it only female UK politicians that you care about? www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-magazine-monitor-29915270

FourTeaFallOut · 03/11/2022 15:59

Be kind is a nonsense.

I still think this effigy thing is pretty close to inciting violence and in poor taste given the ideologically driven murders of Jo Cox and David Amess.

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 03/11/2022 19:15

Do you mean the Edenbridge Guy? They pick a public figure every year to use. Arguably it's bad taste but it's not a weird politician exception.

"The Edenbridge Guy has been a hotly anticipated highlight of the bonfire season since starting 20 years ago, and has previously featured John Bercow, Boris Johnson, Harvey Weinstein, Donald Trump, Katie Hopkins, Russell Brand, Jonathan Ross, both of the Blairs, Katie Price, Wayne Rooney, Lance Armstrong, Anne Robinson and Saddam Hussein."

Really fun to know how hated you are. Like her or not, I highly doubt that her intentions were bad....

It's really poor taste.
