AIBU to ask if you have a pre-payment meter?

Thousands of vouchers have not been claimed for, and there is only 90 days to use them. Around £25 million pounds worth of support has not been claimed for yet.

"The vouchers, which suppliers are sending out by post, email or text, can also be redeemed with the Post Office and at PayPoint stores."

If you haven't received any, they advise you to check through your post. Please check with anyone you know who has a pre-payment meter. Hate to think there is support out there that people aren't able to access.

Thank you for this! I didn’t even know about it until yesterday and my clients are mostly mail-avoiders so I’ll get them searching!

they haven’t made a big song and dance about letting people know have they? I’m my line of work we usually get told everything but I’ve not heard a peep about this

SpotlessMind88 · 03/11/2022 09:35

My boyfriend has a pre-payment meter but he privately rents. The vouchers will be posted to the landlord but the landlord hasn't even picked up his mail in weeks. God only knows when he will give the vouchers to my boyfriend. I didn't even know there was 90 days to use them. I think a lot of renters will be at the mercy of the landlords and if they are on the ball or not

Roomba · 03/11/2022 09:42

I've received my voucher, but I'm not using it until my current meter credit has run out! That will be within the 90 days and if not I have reminders set so I don't forget to use it.

I'm holding off because I don't have a smart meter. So when I last topped up on 30/09, it was at the old rates. And my meter won't update to charge the new rates until I top up again. I'm not paying 1/3 more a day until I absolutely have to! I put every penny I had left for Sept on as credit so I could hold off paying the higher rates as long as I could. Maybe others are doing the same?

It has been over the news a bit as the uptake is slow. It would be if you're not informing people properly!

Like you said, people who struggle financially may well be avoiding official looking post (I know I do!!) which is why I wanted to reach out using this thread Brew

Excellent idea! I know how disorganised I am, I would hate to forget to top up in the time frame but hope lots of people are following this if they're able.

When the rented the electric was in my name, I thought that was the norm?

madnesss · 03/11/2022 10:00

Posted too soon

If the landlord is paying the electric though then the credit would be for him, how does it work does he bill your bf each month privately for electric?

madnesss · 03/11/2022 10:00

Urgh, also thank you OP I know a few people who have these meters, I shall mention it to them too

SpotlessMind88 · 03/11/2022 10:13

@Madness The electric is a pre-paid key. My boyfriend tops up the key. He doesn't get a Bill, same as the gas card. the landlord's name is on any EDF energy or British gas letters that he gets.

Ah see. So the money should be your bfs, o didn't realise landlords did this!

AuntieDickhead · 03/11/2022 12:29

I have no idea if I had mine for October or not. Apparently it would be added automatically in the first week of the month, it doesn't show on my account and when I ask they apparently can't confirm if it was added or not Confused
Fucking useless.

RobertaFirmino · 03/11/2022 13:39

I'm with Scottish Power and my first installment was credited to my key when I topped up. I didn't receive a voucher or any notification that this would happen.

naemates · 03/11/2022 14:16

I got my voucher a week or so ago and promptly put it in the washing machine 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Waiting on a replacement though

Your bf should have called the suppliers and set up an account for himself, it's legal and normal to do, it avoids these issues and allows him to change the meters if he wants etc
don't need permission

Same as PP I have the old meters so still paying pre-oct rates, so won't top up until I need to! Plus annoyingly I preloaded the key with credit, too, so to prolong to pre-oct rates (the key can hold £100 or £250 I believe, can't remember)

Sometimes it takes a few times of topping up to get price changes anyway so hopefully that's the case

Rosenotred · 03/11/2022 14:37

I automatically recieved the £66 on my meter last month and today. I didn't have to apply I just recieved the money

It won't show on your account. I am with British Gas. Try call again and just ask what date you last got the payment and when your next one is due.

The person I spoke to yesterday quite helpful sounds like you got someone who wasn't so helpful.

XAQ · 03/11/2022 15:33

I've had two lots of money appear on my metre lately. Would that be this?
