AIBU to want an outdoor mat that lasts more than 12 months?!

What the fuck are we doing wrong?

Shall we just get an iron one? What does that actually do?

We have a scrubby one at the start, a scrubbier one when you go in and the carpet still gets marked so presumably an iron one would be useless with not spikes to scrub your shoes on?

The one in the picture is less than 12 months old. It's bad for the environment more than anything else.

Ive lived in flats before and I've been here for three years, three mats in and can't see a good solution.

I got so fed up with this that I bought one of these:

They’re not cheap, but as I used to replace my door mat multiple times a year, this one will actually end up saving me money in the long run. I’ve had mine for over two years and there’s no signs of wear on it at all.

@CrimsonAlligator that looks fab, think will buy one. I have a washable turtle mat indoors that is great. Had it for years, washes well and looks like new.

The ikea ones are good.

Do you have birds like crows near you? Sometimes they like to take bits for their nest.

Everyone takes off their shoes as they enter the house. House rule. Can't believe anyone wears outdoor shoes round their house, dogs were on pavements, bird muck, there's all sorts on the ground you can't see, why would you want to tramp that through your home

We have internal turtle mats that have lasted forever, so the link above is worth trying.
BUT, take your shoes off?? Muddy ones come off outside on the doorstep, and you come inside in socks. Cleanish ones come off as soon as you are on the inside doormat in this house.
