Game of Thrones t shirt for 14 year old?

Is this an appropriate gift? From dh to ds14. Not only does ds have no interest in GoT, I don't think it's appropriate for his age to be watching it anyway. Let alone the fact dh has bought a women's fit top....

Sounds like typical useless male low-effort present buying, prob wouldn’t read anything more into it than that. It’s the thought that counts.

Keyansier · 29/10/2022 14:38

What difference does it make whether you think it's appropriate for 14 year olds to be watching the show or not? It's a T-shirt.

GasPanic · 29/10/2022 14:48

Suppose it depends.

If it says "Game of thrones" on the front then probably not so bad.

If it has a full colour picture on the back of someone being scythed in half by a giant sword, and a picture of two people engaged in a sex act on the front, then probably not.

crackersforcrackers · 29/10/2022 15:33

I think the key thing here is that your DS doesn't even like GOT so the tshirt is pointless. I started watching it at 15 and my dad got me for Christmas a Lannister tshirt which I loved!

SpookyPanda · 29/10/2022 15:34

If he doesn't even watch it and it's womens fit (and your son isn't "women shaped") Then no its a ridiculous gift

BogRollBOGOF · 29/10/2022 15:40

In general, 14 is not way off the mark for GoT.

A women's fit for a 14yo boy who's not interested? Thoughtless, crap present.

AuntieDickhead · 29/10/2022 15:42

Appropriateness and fit are irrelevant in light of the fact DS doesn't even like GOT. What a shit present.

FlirtyMelons · 29/10/2022 16:03

It's a shit present as he doesn't like GoT. Not massively unsuitable gift in general for a 14yo boy but why would he buy something he has no interest in (in a ladies fit also)

BeanieTeen · 29/10/2022 16:09

That’s a really shit effort. And yeah, not appropriate really.

WhereYouLeftIt · 29/10/2022 16:20

So your husband bought a female-fit t-shirt for his male son, referencing a TV show your son has no interest in.

Sounds as if DH just wandered into a petrol station shop and picked something off the first counter he walked past. No thought, no effort, no interest in getting his son something he would like.

Yes this is an inappropriate gift. He might as well hand DS a piece of paper saying 'I know nothing about you and I care even less'.

DanglyThings · 29/10/2022 16:29

@WhereYouLeftIt This is what I think. Any gift you give someone should represent what you know/feel about them, and anything as random as this is worse than no gift at all. He does this with me too, so it's not out of character. It's just weird, I think.

Primary usually do them but if you want better quality then try etsy or red bubble - I've had a few GofT t shirts for ds from both

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 29/10/2022 16:50

primark

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 29/10/2022 16:51

Well. That'll teach me to put my glasses on before I reply to an op!!

DrunkOnHim · 29/10/2022 16:56

My kids watched GoT at that age so I’d have been fine with them wearing a T-shirt of it. But your son isn’t interested in it, so it’s a shit present.

Keyansier · 29/10/2022 17:34

People are assuming it's a shirt that has "I ❤Game of Thrones" scrawled across it. Given the show it could just as easily be a shirt with a dragon or a wolf on it which wouldn't look unusual on a 14 year old boy (women's shirt aside).

What does it look like OP?

I’m not assuming that. It’s a GoT T-shirt and he doesn’t like GoT so it’s a rubbish gift, no matter what the design is.

DanglyThings · 29/10/2022 22:50

And for one thing, ds has always made a point of not wearing red, just his preference, and the t shirt is red!! In an addition to the rubbishness of his parenting (and as usual, I doubt myself as to whether or not I'm overreacting) he's gone out tonight and left ds14 and ds10 in on their own. I've been to do the shopping, aware that he was planning to go to a Halloween all nighter at the cinema (the man is 54 ffs) but not what time, I had assumed around 11pm, and came back at 10pm to find the boys on their own with the front door locked (fine, but no key for them to get out if they needed to) and they said he left at 9pm. If he had told me beforehand what time he was planning to leave, or even texted while I was out, I would have got home earlier. Anyway, I could go on....
