To ask if you ever listen to a song over and over and over again?

Or is it just me?

I might think, I’ve not listened to a certain song in ages, search for it, listen to it, brings back happy/love the song/remember the video, a multiple of reasons, so I listen to it again and again……..I can then quite happily listen to the same song multiple times on repeat, in one evening.

Is this common amongst us?

It happens quite often for me. I don’t get bored listening to a song that I enjoy but I wouldn’t want anyone to know just how many times I could listen to the same song over and over.

Anyone else?

Is this ‘normal’?

I do sometimes then get ear worms of said song the following day at work 🫠

Yeah all the time. When I'm really feeling a tune I will repeat that shit alllll day tbh Blush

OnomatopoeiaFlea · 26/10/2022 20:02

Yes it’s just you that does this Confused

This is giving me ‘im not like other girls’ vibes

bigbadbarry · 26/10/2022 20:03

Yes I often get stuck on a song

BobbinThreadbare123 · 26/10/2022 20:03

Yes, a set of them. It'll last a few months and then I'll change. You could probably give a good guess as to what neurodivergence I have 😆

Joolsin · 26/10/2022 20:03

Always. It drives my husband crazy because I'll "ruin" a song he likes by playing it too often!! However, in the car I will play the same song the whole way to work and back again for days and days - the music will follow me in my dreams. Still can't remember all the words, though!!! 😂

Vapeyvapevape · 26/10/2022 20:04

I've got one at the moment Akin Ka Na Lang
it's a language that I don't understand but the singers voice , Morrisette , is so beautiful - I listen to it over and over and over.

EarWormZ · 26/10/2022 20:04

@OnomatopoeiaFlea ok, I think?

Sometimes I go on YouTube after remembering an old song and wanting to hear it, and yes, I sometimes listen over and over. No idea how that relates to being “not like other girls”. Accusations are sometimes admissions though.

DPotter · 26/10/2022 20:07

Well there's at least 2 of us Earwormz

My most recent was 'Spirits Having Flown' by the BeeGees - there dated myself and anything!

5128gap · 26/10/2022 20:07

Yes. Everytime I discover or rediscover a song I like I play it over and over pretty much exclusively until I go off it. Other people find it odd and annoying so I'm glad I'm not alone!

Omg I do exactly like this.

Is this asc/adhd? Another one of my things I thought was a me thing and but is actually an ND thing.

EarWormZ · 26/10/2022 20:10

It’s good to know I’m not alone!

Im sitting here now, looking forward to listening to a song I played endlessly last night, where I’ll probably listen on repeat again this evening!

Same feeling as I get maybe watching a new episode of a tv series, except I couldn’t watch that on repeat.

Not sure if that makes sense!

Often.

(it's me. Hi. I'm the problem, it's me).

ChocolateCakeYum · 26/10/2022 20:11

Always!

My top played tunes on Spotify never changes lol.

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 26/10/2022 20:12

I don't think this is an ND thing, I think it's a fairly common thing. I will listen to the same song on repeat for days and then never listen to it again. DH often will spend an evening with a song on repeat reminiscing (especially if he's had a glass of wine or two). I'd say fairly standard behaviour tbh.

Stroopwaffle5000 · 26/10/2022 20:13

Yep, I thought everyone did this!

EarWormZ · 26/10/2022 20:16

I wasn’t suggesting it was a ND thing, it might be, it might be not, it’s not for me to make this assumption.

I was just curious if anyone else could listen to the same tune over and over and decided to ask the question.

I can listen to the same song but find different elements that might make my heart skip, each time.

I do this a lot. It's very likely that I have ADHD and I did think it was probably linked to that, so interesting to hear that (presumably?) NT people do it too. It quite often represents how I'm feeling at the time - Killing in the Name comes out when I am angry about something, for example.

I do this all the time, I always have. I stil listen on repeat songs from my teens and I'm nearly 40. I'm also (double and late diagnosed) ND.

It's totally normal for autistic people. It's an auditory stim. Not sure if it's normal for NT people or not 🤷🏼‍♀️

deliverooyoutoo · 26/10/2022 20:18

Yes. All the time. It helps me concentrate.

Arnaquer · 26/10/2022 20:18

All the time. Doesn't everyone?

littlepeas · 26/10/2022 20:19

Cross post re ND! I think it is potentially a stim for me, but sounds like it is not necessarily a ND behaviour.

It definitely is an ND thing, it's one of the things that I have heard countless ND people have a huge lightbulb moment over when they meet other people who're 'like them'.

It likely isn't just an ND thing though.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 26/10/2022 20:21

Yes.

When I come across a new favourite song I'll repeat it until I am bored.

I think it is quite common in ADHD too - it gets me going in a similar way to coffee!
