Awful stay at hotel

whatawaits · 25/10/2022 21:08

A week ago I went to a hotel (parents watched my kids at mine) I got the hotel and there was poo on the tap - I told them and they moved me. Later into the stay I asked for some cutlery and was given a dirty fork I told the person behind it was he handed me back the wet set with soap on it.

By this point I felt awful as it had been issue after issue I didn’t want to seem like a problem guest but it wasn’t a dusty room say it was somebody’s waste, and dirty cutlery which can happen but at least given a fresh new set maybe? etc

I remained calm but was annoyed and dissatisfied with how they responded the guy behind the desk rolled his eyes at me and snatched the cutlery from me. Now if I’m wrong I’m wrong but I don’t see why I’ve paid good money to be treated as though I did something wrong. I understand human error!

To compensate they have refunded my stay and firstly said I could have a free night and a free drink, this I think has been retracted. I am wondering should I leave it there

I am not trying to be difficult, I just felt like I was made to be a problem guest because I encountered this issues and brought it to their attention.

Please no negativity either I would like to know what would you do in this situation?

If they've refunded you I'd accept that and consider the matter closed.

I'd still leave them a full review with exactly what happens though, regardless of the refund.

Calvinlookingforhobbes · 25/10/2022 21:10

Accept the refund and move on.

NCHammer2022 · 25/10/2022 21:11

I’d accept the refund and get on with my life.

ApolloandDaphne · 25/10/2022 21:12

You have been refunded so i am not sure what else can be done?

Polimolly · 25/10/2022 21:15

You've been refunded. Even if they gave you an extra free night, would you really want to stay there again???

Chdjdn · 25/10/2022 21:16

What else would you do? A refund is pretty much as good as it gets.

Ineedsleepandcoffee · 25/10/2022 21:17

If they have refunded, I wouldn't take it any further

StoneofDestiny · 25/10/2022 21:18

Yes full refund is ok - surely you'd not want to stay there again? Please tell us where it is so we can avoid going

maryd84 · 25/10/2022 21:20

Why would you want to stay there again if it was so filthy?

BattenburgDonkey · 25/10/2022 21:21

They’ve refunded you, you leave it there. No need to be grabby. If it was that bad you wouldn’t want to stay again anyway, and it’d be uncomfortable even if you did. They’ve done the right thing so now it’s your turn.

CuteCillian · 25/10/2022 21:22

I think a refund is acceptable . If you want to leave a negative review remember to state your charges were refunded.

whatawaits · 25/10/2022 21:27

Appreciate the feedback as I said I asked what would be the appropriate steps. I appreciate the comments. I won’t be returning.

As it was human waste my initial thought was if a child had been in the room and used it first and wasn’t aware.

I wouldn’t post them on social media as I didn’t want to shame anyone and also why I came to ask?

It was a central London hotel. Hotel chain but not a super cheap one.

You've complained, they've refunded you. Leave a review if you see fit. Nothing more to do.

jazzybelle · 25/10/2022 21:58

What more do you expect to happen? Stop fussing about the 'what ifs'.

Pegasushaswings · 25/10/2022 21:59

Sounds absolutely gross! They must clean using one cloth for all! It’s more than an annoyance as you could get all sorts of sickness from human waste on taps.

have you left a review?

WonderingWanda · 25/10/2022 21:59

Just don't go back there. Some hotels are a bit useless at cleaning, they are probably paying crap wages and skimping on supervisors. You weren't in any way unreasonable to complain but honestly it just sounds like a crap hotel. Leave a review on trip advisor to warn others.

I'd still leave them a full review with exactly what happens though, regardless of the refund.

I would also do this.

Testina · 25/10/2022 22:01

Why don’t you tell us what else you actually wanted them to do?

Testina · 25/10/2022 22:04

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with giving you the same cutlery back, washed. That way they’re proving to you that you have something that’s just been cleaned. So the principle is fine. They messed up not drying it thoroughly.

Want2beme · 25/10/2022 22:10

Poo & dust! That's absolutely dreadful. I'd be very interested to read their reviews. I don't think you can expect more than they've already offered you by way of compensation. I would, however, inform their customer services department.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 25/10/2022 22:11

Oh come on. They should at least burn the hotel down and publicly execute all of the staff.

Lesina · 25/10/2022 22:11

You have been refunded, which you should have been. I would however report to the local EHO.

Excrement and dirty cutlery is a massive public health problem.

They need an inspection.

Working in the industry, if they are happy to accept and move on with these things there is a multitude there to be uncovered.

Foxylass · 25/10/2022 22:16

Accept the refund.
You seem to want to do something...
I wonder if you might email the management and just explain to them the problems? Although you must already have done this to get the refund.

There is a massive shortage of staff in hospitality right now, which might explain the issues, but it does not excuse them.

I do not think this is an environmental health issue so nothing else you can do really.
