To ask where to go for a 3 night citybreak next month. Faro, Sofia or Poznan

Just that really. These are the flights on offer. We like ambling around during the day taking in local sights and having coffee and cake. Then eating out and having a nice couple of drinks in the evening. The cheaper the better too ideally. Has anyone been to these and what would you recommend?

I wouldn’t go to Faro

I wouldn’t go to Faro

Can I ask why? I must admit the idea of some sun is seductive

Ive been to Poznan… to be honest, whilst it was fine, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. There wasn’t much to see/do!

Swedishmeatball · 25/10/2022 18:22

Not Sofia. Went there with work and it was pretty depressing.

DottieDolly · 25/10/2022 18:23

Just been in Sofia and we always like it. Nice places to eat out and things to do. Not been to the others so can't comment on them but love Porto in Portugal if you're thinking of Portugal.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 25/10/2022 18:25

Sofia is supposed to be lovely
I know you said these are the only flights but if they’re offering faro is Lisbon or Porto not available because they would tick all your boxes

Justasmallgless · 25/10/2022 18:30

Been in faro for 3 days, leave tomorrow.
Old town lovely but am disappointed at amount of graffiti and general scruffiness.
Beach is a bus ride away but no sun beds etc as now out of season although some bars/restaurants open on beach.
Some great seafood restaurants here
Wouldn't say there is tons to see once you have wandered the old town

Cheeseandlobster · 25/10/2022 18:30

We have done Porto. And it's these flights that fit our budget and time off work. There are 2 more flights to Riga and Wroclaw but these depend on getting another days leave which isn't confirmed yet. Are these better options?

Wrocław is my favourite place I think I’ve been! It is seriously beautiful and all sorts of lovely. We stayed at the Monopol Hotel which was great! You will not regret going there!

Sugarbeaches · 25/10/2022 20:43

We went here too! It was great! A few years ago though, so check the reviews! www.bigmouth.pl/2018/04/29/restaurant-with-no-menu-in-wroclaw/

I actually really liked Sofia! It's cheap as chips too. You should do a day trip to plovdiv too we loved this little hidden gem.

Cheeseandlobster · 25/10/2022 20:58

Love the look of that restaurant. I would really enjoy that! And Plovdiv looks fab too 😊

I'd do Faro anyday, but not for the town, it's the surrounding area that's amazing.

Olhao, Tavira & Fuseta (all within 30 mins) some of the nicest places I've visited and the Rio Formosa Natural Park is absolutely stunning. It's a lagoon, filled with natural habitat and has five barrier islands.
You can do day trips (for 2 euros!) to these islands and have lunch and wander around etc, they don't have any cars and are pedestrian only and really arty and lovely. The light house island has the prettiest police station ever!

In Olhao it has gorgeous old tiles and lovely architecture, really amazing hidden restaurants as there's a large daily fisdh and food market there every day, I think it's the largest in southern Portugal at least, so really good food in the area! From my understanding from locals it's a good up and coming area.

Tavira is more upmarket, it has lots of french ex pats, so has a cool vibes, especially so close to Spain. The beaches and walks around there are gorgeous too.

Less than 10 mins from the airport is Praia de Faro, which is a wide expansive beach, I've stayed here for a few days, and there's a few nice cocktail bars and restaurants - but is very quiet and not sure if it will be open this time of year.

Albuifera is good if you want a port and wander around the super yachts, this time if year it's still fairly busy.

I've sunbathed on the beach New years day in the Algarve, so you may get some good weather!

Sofia is not a nice place. It has some nice buildings and bars but I found it depressing and a bit unsafe.

Rauha · 26/10/2022 16:32

From your updated options, definitely Wrocław. It's wonderful.
