I may have imagined this but I think I saw on one of those rehab your naughty pet type programmes a sort of camera/screen thing on the wall of a house that allowed the owner to remotely appear on it and talk to their pet.

I'm not sure I've explained it very well but - say you are at work for a few hours and the dog is alone, you could open up the remote camera, appear on the screen on the wall and talk to the pet.

It was different from a normal Zoom type thing because it didn't require the recipient to 'answer' or 'accept' the call - being a dog!

I've tried googling pet cameras but can't find what I remember. It was a small -ish screen about the size of a table or an ipad and it was on the wall by the pet's bed.

Does this exist? what is it called?

You could use an Alexa show I suppose? Use the drop in feature and video chat.

I've seen one that dispenses treats too...

@PeloFondo yes it was that type of thing but it had a screen as well - so that the pet could see your face as you talked to it.

It's like a two way camera - but activatable by you remotely so that the pet doesn't need to "answer" but the screen where you are visible isn't on all the time.

My cats show no interest in video chatting. Does your dog?

Are you thinking of dog phone?

Our remote camera for checking on the dog has a function where you can talk to him, but I have never used it because I think he would be distressed if he could hear me, but couldn't find me.
