Arctic Monkeys new album a load of drivel?

Listening to Arctic Monkeys new album and I’m finding it really irritating. Going off in all sorts of pointless directions in Bowie style vocals and arrangements one minute, then Lloyd Cole… Overdoing it with all sorts of orchestral embellishments thrown in all over the place that I’m really not buying.

Is it actually a masterpiece and I just don’t see it? Anyone able to enlighten me?

I haven't listened to the album but the songs from it I've heard on the radio have been awful. If they were a new band coming out with that rubbish they would be laughed out of the record company's offices.

I was listening to Jo Whiley giving them the time of day on her radio show a couple of days ago. She’s always so gracious with people but they sounded so above themselves.

They’ve always been quite a backwards looking band (probably part of their initial appeal to the aging music critics trying to convince themselves guitar bands are still relevant) but they’re going so far backwards now they’ve disappeared up their own bum holes. Still, it’s a bit early to say if it’s a masterpiece or not, masterpieces usually take some getting used to, and they’re often misunderstood at first.

It's dreadful. I also listened to Jo Whiley and thought every song was crap. Additionally, I had to buy the album in order to get into the ticket presale, so it actually arrived yesterday.
Having said that, the album and tickets are for DD and her favourite Arctics song is 505, which I don't love, but seems more similar in sound to their new stuff so 🤞she will like it.

Interesting comments. I expect it’s the ageing music producers who are backing these people then. Such a shame when there must be far more talented musicians out there who won’t be heard.
