You think of someone and they message

What do you all reckon is happening when you think of someone you haven't thought of or seen in a long time and they then out of the blue get in touch:

AIBU - it's pure coincidence.

YANBU - people can feel our energy.

Coincidence. It's been a long time so they pop into your thoughts, it's also been a long time for them and so you pop into their thoughts.

How often do random people pop into your thoughts like that? I know it happens a lot for me. And they rarely get in touch.
As humans we're programmed to look for patterns and connections, so you automatically forget all the times it doesn't happen and think that there is something more than coincidence when it does.

Neither, it's confirmation bias.

You don't remember all the many many times hlube thought of a person and they haven't messaged, because it's unremarkable.

Of course it’s coincidence. It’s not possible to “feel someone’s energy”. What a load of tosh.

It's a coincidence. There are enough people in the world and enough attempts at contact between them to make these things inevitable.

Like with the old idea of picking up a phone to call someone, and them being on the other end of the line because they'd just called you and you picked up before the ringing started. It's a surprise, but it would be stranger if it never happened to anyone ever.

Also if you're close to someone you often tend to think similarly. So the same sort of trigger will cause you both to think about contacting the other, whether it's an event in the news or an unconscious realisation that it's roughly time to contact them.
