That Microsoft is making it REALLY difficult to set up my child an email account?

So I've got the paid home Microsoft thing. 365? Office? Don't know what it's called as it's always getting rebranded.

Anyway I have tried to set up an email address in outlook for my child then add her into my family sharing.

But it's going in catch 22 circles - I need to get into the email to authorize it. And yet I can't get into the email to authorize it as it's not been authorised. Arrrgh

Can someone please tell me how to sort this out?!

Thanks so much. It really shouldn't be this difficult!

And I really want the email to be an outlook account and she can use the edge browser, in an attempt to keep from seeing grim stuff online.

You would think that Microsoft had done a 'customer journey'!

I gave up and bought an I pad and an I phone! Microsoft is just pants

Set up a gmail account instead and do family sharing if you're on android

You set up your phone/email for the code to be sent too to authenticate it

Talipesmum · 17/10/2022 21:54

Yes - I was also thinking that a child account would need your email account to be the one that authorises it.

ColeensBoot · 17/10/2022 21:56

But she doesn't have a phone to authenticate it.

And I've added her to the family sharing but I can't seem to set up her outlook account.

It's so wierd

Apple route isn't an option

I've just tried this with my acc and it worked.
1st set up a Microsoft email account (search office 365 personal and when the log in page comes up select create). Create the email address and password and it will sign the new account in
Next open an incognito tab in your browser and sign in to your office account, go to manage my account and find share Microsoft family. Select the email option and email the invite to the email address you just set up.
Go back to the normal browser where the new acc is signed in, open the outlook browser app and accept the invitatuon(mine went into the junk folder).

Right! I'll try that in the morning. Thanks
