To exercise & diet but not tell friends ?

I'm enjoying getting back into running. If I tell a particular friend about this then she will want to come along with me. My idea of a run is 5-6miles in an hour. Her idea is a stroll around the field with a takeaway coffee. I also don't want the competition of dieting and a 'who can lose the most' type of thing, which inevitably this is what joint diets seem to turn into. I want to do it my way, in my time, with no pressures.

You're not obligated to tell anyone.

yerdaindicatesonbends · 16/10/2022 19:59

Not at all. If you had a friend who had similar drive and abilities as you then yeah that could be great, and I’ve gotten really fit with friends like this before. But it’s ok to do this just for you.

Thatiswild · 16/10/2022 19:59

I wouldn’t tell anyone about my exercise schedule or what I eat, no one has ever asked me either, yanbu! Loads of people prefer to run alone too so even if she sees you just say that.

declutteringmymind · 16/10/2022 20:00

Don't tell anyone. And if someone wants to come along, say it's my solitude time.

Chocolatebiscuit1234 · 16/10/2022 20:02

Just don't tell anyone.
I had this a few times with one friend and then just had to tell white lies that I wasn't going anymore / going at different times.

Tuilpmouse · 16/10/2022 20:03

YA obviously NBU!

Cw112 · 16/10/2022 20:03

It's your time and health to do what you want with, you don't need to tell anyone anything you don't want to. Normally I find I'd only tell people things like that if I want accountability otherwise it's not really their business?

ToadSmall · 16/10/2022 20:06

Why would it be unreasonable. I do loads of ordinary everyday things without telling other people.

CheezePleeze · 16/10/2022 20:08

Errrm why do you think you might not be reasonable?

Blowyourowntrumpet · 16/10/2022 20:10

Of course not. Do whatever works best for you

Wibbly1008 · 16/10/2022 20:11

I much prefer secrecy with this kind of thing. I don’t like people always asking or commenting really.

PivotPivotPivot123 · 16/10/2022 20:13

I don't even tell people when I've got a week off work 🙈

ouch321 · 16/10/2022 20:13

LOL

DappledThings · 16/10/2022 20:24

Why on earth would if be unreasonable to not announce your fitness plan? Don't get silly, just crack on.

Love this!
There are certain people who I wouldn't tell either as otherwise I would get asks to help out with their childcare/pet sitting/favours/lifts
