God they’re a mess

ItchySnoof · 14/10/2022 12:56

The petition to call a general election is ticking up rapidly after that announcement. Not that it will change a damn thing. What a fucking mess.

But remember, Ed Miliband ate a sandwich awkwardly. Thank GOD we are all safe from that.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 14/10/2022 13:00

But who wants the poison chalice of new chancellor?

Maggiethecat · 14/10/2022 13:18

She’ll be thrown under the bus soon too, don’t worry!!

Signed! Apparently Parliament will debate the petition on 17 October. Hope a lot more people sign before then.

It’s all just so bloody embarrassing isn’t it.

BruceAndNosh · 14/10/2022 13:20

Markets have rallied as rumours abound that Larry the Downing Street cat has accepted post of Chancellor

RagzRebooted · 14/10/2022 13:21

Wonder how the markets will react to this one? Yesterday he was adamant he wasn't going. It's all just such a joke, except it's our economy and therefore our lives.

KimberleyClark · 14/10/2022 13:22

Signed the petition.

Nadhim Zahawi will take it. He doesn't have any scruples. I would hope Sajid Javid wouldn't sign on to a sinking ship run by the IEA and TPA but who knows. I've no idea who else is in the running.

BeastOfBODMAS · 14/10/2022 13:26

Just need to get shot of Captain Barnacles now

donquixotedelamancha · 14/10/2022 13:54

Chris Philp, who was heavily involved in plans for the mini-budget, has also lost his job as chief secretary to the Treasury and has been moved to the Cabinet Office.

Christ. She sacked the last one 5 weeks ago because he pointed out the problems with her stupid plan, now she's sacked another for just shutting up and doing as he was told.

Civil servants don't make policy. They are supposed to be in post long term so we have impartial experts who understand how the department works.

I think the ridiculous way she's politicising the civil service might (in the long run) be even more dangerous than her economic policies.

Marigoldandivy · 14/10/2022 13:56

I did see Larry the cat behind the BBC presenter earlier, trying to get into number 10. I think he might actually do a better job than either Kwarteng or Liz.

Littlebelina · 14/10/2022 13:58

Is one of the jokes Jeremy Hunt as Chancellor?

miceonabranch · 14/10/2022 14:00

When is Truss going though?

Chris Philp is a politician - MP for Croydon South rather than a civil servant. Hopefully they will bring back Tom Scholar though now that Kwasi has gone.

Apparently Jeremy Hunt is becoming Chancellor - I wonder how many people she had to phone first...

To paraphrase Jaws, "They're gonna need a bigger bus".

@donquixotedelamancha civil servants do make policy.

Also, you might be confusing Chris Philp’s sacking with the sacking of the Treasury Permanent Secretary a couple of weeks ago.

The Trwasury Perm Sec is a civil servant. Normally, the government can’t and don’t sack civil servants.

Chris Philp on the other hand is an MP, not a civil servant. He’s been sacked from his role as a minister in the Treasury (from his role was Chief Secretary).

We are literally a political joke.

Stupid an. He should’ve said from the beginning this is Liz’s budget as well. I just received a voucher from spec savers that I might give him because it seems like he was too blind to see that they were going to throw him under the bus on the first moment they could.

Mochudubh · 14/10/2022 14:11

Signed the petition.

It comes to something when I realise I regard Jeremy Hunt as one of the more competent members of the Government.

Getoff · 14/10/2022 14:12

I was going to say Jeremy Hunt might be a safe pair of hands, as he hadn't planned on getting the job, so won't be planning to implement any clever idea he might have at the back of his mind. But I see from his Wikipedia entry that he did study economics, among other things, which is a little worrying. I'd prefer someone who with no economics background. They won't think they know what they're doing, and consequently are unlikely to have the confidence to fuck anything up.

LetMeSpeak · 14/10/2022 14:12

we need another election. This just can’t keep going on. our country will be at a point of no return if he have to wait any longer.
