To expect a detergent free glass to drink from?

At PIL's today and had a glass of water. Took 1 sip and realised I had a mouth full of suds which I spat out in the bathroom.

AIBU that hand washed dishes/glasses need to be rinsed in clean water. All the soap suds and bubbles don't just 'dissolve' as my MIL informs me? Am I wrong?

YANBU that gives me the heebie jeebies, I always check glasses before I drink from them for this reason!

Ew that’s horrible! Sorry that happened to you, sounds unpleasant. Could you have a quick chat with them to ask if they could make sure to rinse out their glasses/other crockery etc?

I always rinse clean glasses out before use, when I get them from the cupboard. Whether they’ve been washed by hand or in a dishwasher. If I’m told to help myself to a drink in someone else’s house, I do it then, too, out of habit!

That is absolutely gross. Of course things should be rinsed!

You are right. I've had friends who never rinse and I can't believe they can't taste it!
