4 year old with pain above willy but below belly button

Since he got home from nursery about 4pm he’s been complaining of pain in the area I’ve shown in the diagram. And is now laying on the sofa refusing to get up as he says it hurts when he walks.

Any ideas?

Phone 111?

Heywoods · 12/10/2022 17:47

I’m not sure how to explain to 111 on the phone where the pain is exactly.

Just tell them he has a pain in his lower left abdomen surely?

Could be appendix, if more central could be bladder. I’d definitely get out of hours appt

beonmywaythen · 12/10/2022 17:51

UTI?

AceofPentacles · 12/10/2022 17:52

Pulled muscle?

Take him to A and E, whilst unlikely it could be testicular torsion (pain usually occurs higher up) as a male I can promise anyone that it is one of the most painful and time critical illnesses. Why this is not more widely spoken about I do not know, it should be taught by health care visitors when children are young. Delay can result in the death of the testicle, usually you have 6-24 hours to save it, though the longer it is twisted the less likely it is to be saved.

'Above willy, below belly button' is probably adequate.

Roselilly36 · 12/10/2022 18:21

Appendix is usually right side rather than left but not always. Could be trapped wind, colic, constipation etc. Ring GP or 111 for assessment. Hope your little boy is better soon.

welshweasel · 12/10/2022 18:23

I'd give him some calpol and nurofen and see how he is in a while. See if he'll try and have a poo. I wouldn't ring 111 after 90 mins of tummy ache.

LadyLothbrook · 12/10/2022 18:23

Hernia

BadGranny · 12/10/2022 18:25

Lower left quadrant won’t be appendix - that’s on the right.

LuffleGro · 12/10/2022 18:27

Is there a walk-in centre you could take him to? If not then call 111 or use the online version 111.nhs.uk/

DottyLittleRainbow · 12/10/2022 18:27

Call 111. Could be several things. I will say that my younger brother was like this when he had appendicitis.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 12/10/2022 18:27

Lower left is where your large intestine comes round, had he had a poo recently? Does it feel hard if you press with flat fingers on the area?

Just to rule out the least worrying possibility first!

hangryorhungry · 12/10/2022 18:28

I'd say hernia too.. my DS had one when you get. Give calpol tonight & assuming it doesn't escalate, get gp apt in morning.

LunaLoveLemon · 12/10/2022 18:28

Could just need a poo or have trapped wind. A couple of hours of tummy ache in the absence of any other symptoms doesn’t ring alarm bells for me. My 4yo complains of tummy ache several times per week.

Michiru · 12/10/2022 18:47

That spot is exactly where I have a massive scar from having had my appendix taken out - yes, on my left. Emergency because no one thought it should be there and I would have been dead 2 hours after emergency admission without an op.

Please go and see A&E.

Well, yes, although personally I'd use the correct terms (penis and navel).

RockAndRollerskate · 12/10/2022 18:52

It literally says the label of the area on the diagram. You can’t not phone 111 because you can’t describe where it might be

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/10/2022 18:53

I'd gone him a warm bath too on case it's trapped wind, might help relax things a bit.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/10/2022 18:53

**give

myexisawanker · 12/10/2022 18:55

Constipation ?

Does the penis need to be referred to? Surely anything abdominal is above the penis ? Granted I've not see a male body for a while but......
