BNWT probably means stolen.

BNWT probably means stolen.

In my house BNWT means it was a bit tight but will look great when I lose a few pounds!

Not always. I buy a lot of mid -range designers stuff for cheap and sell for triple the price on eBay.

Everything I buy is BNWT as that's where the best profits are.

Same, BNWT means I had good intentions to lose a couple of pounds but it didn’t happen 😂

Exactly this! or bought for an occasion but found something else and never took it back or it was beyond the return period.

BNWT in my house means someone bought the baby this gorgeous outfit that I kept for 'good' and she grew out of before the occasion to wear it came along Blush

Haha I have 4 items on Vinted at the moment for that exact same reason!

DozyFox · 11/10/2022 12:03

Omg yes, I see this on vinted a lot. I also see BNWT listings for dresses where one of pictures is the seller wearing it at an event 🤣 just because you didn't take the tags off, it doesn't mean the dress is still new if you've bloody worn it to a wedding!

🤣🤣

Drives me mad.

I’m obviously very naive though, as I’ve never considered the BNWT things I buy could be stolen 😳

😂 same here! I have an amazing wardrobe of clothes all with tags on because, you know, I'll slim into them.

I work in a charity shop and you'd be surprised about the number of BNWT items we get donated, everything from £2 Primark vest tops to £80 dresses. We also have people who come in specifically to buy items to resell.

OneForTheRoadThen · 11/10/2022 12:33

My stuff I sell BNWT is all clothes I ordered online that didn't look good when I tried them on and that I was too disorganised/lazy to return in time

Or ‘I bought two sizes and forgot to return one’

sheepdogdelight · 11/10/2022 12:50

or "My mother buys me random clothes which generally don't fit me or suit me, but I can't take back as they are generally bought abroad, or from non-mainstream shops that are near my parents' house but 200 miles from me"

yes this here too! Or it's some hideous frilly pink thing from a boutique shop bloody miles away that I can't return!

Rosehugger · 11/10/2022 12:51

Or it could mean "I tried on the jeans but could only fit one leg into them."

Pleiades2020 · 11/10/2022 12:51

You read my mind, this very thing was annoying me about 10 minutes ago. Brand new without tags but says only worn a few times! It's not brand new without tags then! Makes me a bit distrustful of all the other BNWOT items. (Vinted).

RainbowsMoonbeams · 11/10/2022 14:26

This is one of the reasons I stopped looking for things on eBay. For some reason, people would mark their item as ‘new’, then in the description it would read things like “only worn a few times” etc. so it was actually used.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 11/10/2022 14:32

This drives me nuts on Vinted! I've searched new with/without tags! I don't want clothes that have been worn, I'd search for that if I did. Grr.

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 11/10/2022 14:55

This is so annoying on Vinted.

Dress 'NWOT' - only worn once.
Onesie 'NWOT' - only worn a handful of times (closer look at pictures reveals worn out knees and elbows).

Same with the 'very good condition - few stains on the sleeves but I am sure they will come out in the wash' type.

I have had lots of great buys on vinted but you do need to be very careful.

Houseplantmad · 11/10/2022 14:58

Thank you! I don’t get people using this unless it’s genuine.
I bought something new without tags on Vinted that had several pulls in it, make up on it and a grease patch. I got a full refund.

FamilyTreeBuilder · 11/10/2022 15:01

Yes we see a lot of BNWT where I volunteer too. In our case I think it's because we're quite a way out of town and the hassle and cost for going back into town and returning something which doesn't fit or you've changed your mind about just isn't worth it. Especially when it was bought in the sales and you're not sure about the return policy anyway.

FamilyTreeBuilder · 11/10/2022 15:02

Also agree that brand new without tags means tried on briefly, not worn on a night out!
